* ShoutOut:
** Nihilus trying to fry Penny with Force lightning, only to accidentally supercharge her power to 400% is a reference to ''Film/TheAvengers2012'', where Thor does the exact same thing to Iron Man's armor during their fight in the woods.
** The scene where Ozpin, Pyrrha, Ironwood, and Glynda work together to restrain Nihilus while Penny tries to remove his mask is reminiscent of the Battle on Titan from ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'' where Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy try to remove the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos's hand.

** Penny says "Roger roger!" in response to being told by Pyrrha to remove the Mask of Nihilus from Jaune's face.
** Nihilus being weakened because a person he held a Force Bond with was killed references a player choice to kill Visas and weaken Nihilus in ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublicIITheSithLords''.

** Downplayed. At 400% power, Penny's WaveMotionGun has power comparable to that of ''turbolasers'' used on ''capital ships''. Although Nihilus tanks the beam with his Aura intact, it still sends him flying across the courtyard and legitimately made him go OhCrap. Nihilus also claims that the energy beam would have ''killed'' him had his Aura not been supercharged.
** In canon, a single blast from the stored kinetic energy in Ozpin's cane was powerful enough to instantly vaporize Salem, the Monstra, and most of her Grimm army. When Ozpin uses it here as part of a last-ditch effort against Nihilus, the Sith Lord survives the explosion (albeit critically injured and missing one arm).

It's outright stated that her newly-improved energy beam had the same power as a ''turbolaser'' from the wider galaxy and the beam instantly shatters Nihilus' previously impenetrable Force Barrier and sends him flying across the courtyard before crashing into the ground and forming an impact crater where he lands. Nihilus also audibly lets out a groan of pain as he picks himself off the ground. Then it turns out that Penny's attack didn't even break Nihilus' Aura, although it did leave it heavily depleted. It's also the first time that any of the heroes have landed a solid hit on him in the battle.

** Later, when Penny starts pulling his mask off, he goes ''completely apeshit'' and flies into an UnstoppableRage. He then lets out a ''terrifying'' roar and breaks free of his metal restraints before unleashing a frenzied beatdown on Penny, Ironwood, and the rest of the heroes.

** After discovering that Penny is a robot, Nihilus tries to destroy her circuits by hitting her with the largest blast of Force lightning that he can produce. Instead of hurting her, he ends up supercharging her body's power to 400%.

* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** After realizing that Penny is a robot, Nihilus stops using his Force Drain on her and instead switches to using regular Force lightning in an attempt to destroy her. However, the electricity instead supercharges her and gives her firepower equivalent to that of a turbolaser, which she promptly uses to blast Nihilus across the courtyard, taking out a huge chunk of his Aura in the process.
** A twofold example results from Nihilus killing Pyrrha. Firstly, by killing Pyrrha, Nihilus unknowingly severed the Force Bond that she had formed with Jaune. Since Nihilus was possessing Jaune's body, the ''massive'' psychic backlash that results from her death nearly kills him and leaves him extremely weakened. Secondly, because Pyrrha was thinking of Ruby as she died, Ruby becomes the next Fall Maiden while simultaneously unlocking her [[EleventhHourSuperpower silver eyes]] from a TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening caused by witnessing Pyrrha's murder. This gives Ruby the power to exorcise the Dark Side from Jaune's body, allowing Jaune to retake control of his body and perform a HeroicSacrifice, thereby putting an end to the threat posed by Nihilus.
