As Mr Weasley explains, holding the Quidditch World Cup at a place hidden from Muggles is a massive organisational challenge. The stadium is on a deserted moor next to a campsite. Wizards who don't arrive by apparating instead arrive using Portkeys. These are magical objects which will transport anyone touching it to a certain place at a given time. They head out to a nearby hill to find their Portkey. They are travelling with two other people. One is Cedric Diggory, a fellow Hogwarts student who we have met before: [[Recap/HarryPotterAndThePrisonerOfAzkabanC9GrimDefeat he captains the Hufflepuff Quidditch team]] and seems to be a LoveableJock. The other is his father Amos, a Ministry worker in the creatures department who dotes on his son.

Everyone wakes up early in the morning. The older three brothers are Apparating (vanishing on the spot and appearing somewhere else). As Mr Weasley explains, this is fairly challenging to do. Wizards must pass a test to be able to do it freely, and nasty accidents can happen if it goes wrong. The biggest danger is ''splinching'', leaving body parts behind. As they leave, Mrs Weasley (the only person staying behind at the Burrow) demonstrates a Summoning Charm to find joke sweets that the twins were trying to smuggle out.

The group of nine grab hold of the Portkey (an old boot) and the moment arrives; they vanish and arrive at the Quidditch World Cup.
