* BaitAndSwitch: When he shows Mei how he obtained a Philosopher Stone first, it seems as thought Ling is doing this to rub it in her face that she essentially lost. Instead, he takes the time to tell her that should the Stone better his chance of becoming Emperor, he will use his power to better the lives of her dying clan.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** Two months pass in-story between the final defeat of Father and the Elrics' return to Risembool. While the delay is partly due to the post-battle clean-up and fallout, it's also because given his emaciated state, Al couldn't immediately travel. Even after two months, Al still needs the aid of a crutch for movement and has to take breaks during the walk from Risembool Station to the Rockbell home. It takes another 2 years before Al's fully recovered.
** Ed no longer being able to perform alchemy is played for laughs. He can no longer use it for mundane tasks like fixing the roof shingles on the Rockbell home. This is meant to drive home that Ed is ''still'' overcoming his reliance on alchemy.

Winry even lampshades how Ed and Alphonse wouldn't really be themselves if all they ever did was sit around doing nothing.
