Newton sends a few hired thugs to retrieve a component of Walternate's doomsday machine from underneath a house. When opened, the box emits a sound that sends two of the thugs and the family living in the house into a trance before killing them. However, one of the thugs isn't affected and escapes with the box. When the Fringe team investigates, Fauxlivia realises that the job -- which she planned and ordered Newton to carry out -- has been botched, because the team was supposed to find the box. The last thug makes contact with Fauxlivia (where it's revealed that he's deaf, and that's why he wasn't affected) and gives her the box, believing she's the proper authorities, and Fauxlivia gives it to Newton, who plants it in a train station where it kills several people. Peter figures out a way to get close enough to disarm it, and the Fringe team realises that it's a component of the machine.
Meanwhile, Walter and Nina meet with a lawyer to hear William Bell's last will and testament. He has left a few mementoes to the pair and in the testament, he expresses gratitude to the pair for their friendship and guidance. Walter also receives a key to a safety deposit box, but is reluctant to open it because William's note tells him not to be afraid to cross the line, even though Walter believes that crossing the line is what lead to the current catastrophe. He eventually opens the safety deposit box, and discovers that Bell left him 100% of the company shares: Walter is the new owner of Massive Dynamic. At the end of the episode, Peter begins work of the component of the doomsday machine, attempting to understand it better, while Fauxlivia reports to Walternate that Peter is "engaged" with the task.
