Three months later, Gloria, now working for the Minneapolis office of the Department of Homeland Security, is summoned to New York City. Varga has been arrested trying to reenter the United States under the assumed name of "[[ComicBook/ImmortalIronFist Daniel Rand]]". She declares that in five minutes he will be going to jail for the crimes he committed or ordered others to commit for him in Minnesota, including money laundering and six counts of conspiracy to commit murder. However, Varga asserts that in five minutes Gloria's superior will arrive and let him go free. Both stand confidently behind their perception of what's about to happen, and as the camera pans closer to the door, the episode ends before either is confirmed or denied.

->''"Trust me. The future is certain. And when it comes, you will know without question your place IRS agent Dollard finds Gloria's number in the world. Until then, we've said Stussy Lots file. He calls her, and Gloria arranges to meet Dollard, despite insisting that she did not send the file. Dollard explains to Gloria that Varga's takeover of Stussy Lots is intended as a tax fraud scam. After returning from the police station, Emmit is forced to sign many contracts, after which he grabs Meemo's gun and attempts to force Varga to withdraw from his house and business. Nikki gives Wrench most of the ransom money, and the two part ways.

Emmit, regaining consciousness, goes to Stussy Lots' offices to find that Goldfarb, who was apparently in league with Varga, has finalized her acquisition of the company for $100,000 and has begun moving her employees into the building. Goldfarb assures Emmit that he holds millions in offshore accounts, but that he
is liable for Stussy Lots' large debts and advises him to say. Any further debate declare bankruptcy, leaving him distraught. In a remote area, Emmit's car stalls, and Nikki confronts him. She holds him at gunpoint, but when a state trooper intervenes, she hides the shotgun on Emmit's rear bumper. When the trooper asks for documents, Nikki shoots and kills the trooper, who simultaneously shoots Nikki dead. A traumatized Emmit flees the scene and drives to his wife's house, breaks down, and sobs at her feet.

Five years pass. Emmit, who has rekindled his marriage, celebrates at a dinner with his family and friends, including a semi-recovered Sy. Emmit goes to the kitchen for the salad and is shot in the back of the head by Mr. Wrench.

Three months later, Gloria, now an agent for the Department of Homeland Security, interviews Varga, who is going by the name "Daniel Rand", in a holding cell. She declares that in five minutes he
will be simply wasting our breath - going to jail for money laundering and if there's one thing I can't abide, it's waste. Goodbye."''

six counts of conspiracy to commit murder. However, Varga asserts that in five minutes Gloria's superior will arrive and let him go free. Both stand confidently behind their perception of what's about to happen, and as the camera pans closer to the door, the episode ends before either is confirmed or denied.

Gloria is writing her letter of resignation while Larue Dollard pins papers that reveal a massive scandal involving Stussy Lots’ documented revenue to the walls of an empty room in the IRS offices. After she turns the letter in, Gloria gets a call from Dollard, immediately takes the letter back, and heads to the IRS when she hears of his investigation into massive financial conspiracy concerning Emmit Stussy and a business partner with the name V.M. Varga. Meanwhile, Nikki and Wrench are prepping weapons to use in their next move against Varga, who’s overseeing Emmit signing his paperwork. Defeatedly, Emmit finishes up and puts his head down on the table.

-->'''Varga:''' It’s perfectly natural. You see it all the time in the wild—a smaller animal going limp in the jaws of the larger. Genetic instinct. At some level, food knows it’s food.

Meemo, sitting next to him, begins putting up the papers while Varga receives a call from Nikki. In a last attempt to gain control of his situation, Emmit grabs the handgun inside Meemo’s pocket and points it at Varga. The men staked inside the house begin slowly moving in while Varga tries convincing him that the gun has a fingerprint scanner on the trigger. This distracts him long enough for Meemo to sneak up behind him and knock him out with a prong. Once he’s on the floor, the men begin moving out and erasing any evidence of their presence in Emmit’s house.

Somewhere on the outskirts of town, Varga and his men prepare to meet with Nikki. Led out of their cars by a child and through the street into a seemingly abandoned storage facility, they board an elevator and rise to the top floor. Varga stays behind and holds the elevator door while his men begin looking around through the empty hallway filled with storage garage doors. At the end of the hallway in an open room, a note sits on a table claiming that the flash drives are in unit 209 of the building, but right then Varga receives a text warning him that they’ve already been handed over to the IRS. He yells for them to make a speedy escape, but the garage door across from the elevator begins silently rising, prompting him to shut the elevator and leave his men behind. Meemo glances at him one last time before the door closes completely and heavy gunfire is heard.

Back at the entrance, Nikki has disposed of the goons that were camped out and is waiting for the elevator to return. When it does, however, she finds only a trench coat inside, the hatch on the roof having been opened. Wrench returns in the second elevator, his hands and the briefcase coated in blood. Nikki tells him that all the money inside is for him, as she only wants to take her revenge on Emmit. Emmit, meanwhile, awakes on the floor with his prized stamp stuck to his forehead. Realizing that Varga has left no trace at his house, he discards the stamp and takes off towards the office.

Arriving at the place he once worked, he finds Ruby Goldfarb moving her new business in. She reveals that the Stussy Corporation sold all their assets that morning and they’re now carrying a debt of over three million dollars, but the personal funds he acquired over the past year have been carefully hidden. By this time, Emmit has realized that Ruby was working with Varga the whole time, and he’s escorted out of the building by security.

Back at the IRS, Dollard is describing his research to Gloria, informing her that the crimes of Stussy Lots are much more complicated than money laundering. He tells her that they’d been involved in a bleedout, in which an outside company acquires a healthy company, borrows millions of dollars in the company’s name, then sells the debt-laden company for a fraction of the price while the millions of borrowed dollars are pocketed by the business partners. Ironically, the process is not illegal when done properly, but instead of following the appropriate tax guidelines, every dime the company earned appeared to have gone to offshore accounts for Emmit, Sy, and Varga, making them central to the scandal. Once the process has been explained, however, Gloria gets a call about a situation by a storage facility on the outskirts of town.

Winnie greets her friend by informing her of the details of the crime. Showing her security photos of Nikki, Wrench, and Varga, Gloria realizes that Nikki sent her phone number to the IRS in a revenge scheme against Varga, and she leaves to warn Emmit, who, unbeknownst to her, is driving down an empty country road somewhere. Typical to his luck, his car breaks down, and an oncoming pickup truck pulls off behind him to reveal Nikki with a shotgun. Holding him at gunpoint, she asks if he’s finally reached his lowest.

-->'''Emmit:''' Honestly, if you’d asked me yesterday, I would’ve said I couldn’t go lower, sitting in jail staring at a life behind bars or the electric chair. But now here we are today, lower still.

Emmit tries convincing Nikki to spare his life because of his family, but she refutes that there’s anyone left who cares about him. Realizing she might be right, he tells her to go ahead and take her shot. She starts reciting [[Recap/FargoS03E08WhoRulesTheLandOfDenial the message Paul Marrane told her to deliver to the wicked]], but a state trooper pulls up before she can finish. Nikki hides her gun on the bumper of Emmit’s car and tells him to get back inside, but after the trooper studies their situation for a minute, he tells him to get back out and for both of them to step away from the car. Emmit gets out, and Nikki, who’s been slowly creeping back towards the bumper, pulls out the shotgun and takes her shot right as the trooper takes his. Emmit ducks, and the other two drop dead on the pavement. He, untouched by any projectiles, gets back in his car and drives away. A while later, law enforcement shows up to the scene, including Gloria, who watches as Nikki’s body is taken away.

-->'''Gloria:''' Okay then.

Sometime later, Gloria pulls Nathan off his school bus and sits and talks to him about the world while they eat popsicles. Emmit eventually reaches his destination, where he walks to Stella’s door, drops to his knees with grief, and hugs her. Overtaken with emotion, she returns the hug, and five years later their family gathers at the dinner table once again while text explains that Emmit filed personal bankruptcy in 2011 and pled guilty to misdemeanor tax fraud, serving two years probation for his crimes. Emmit goes to the kitchen to fetch the salad for the family, and while his back is turned, he’s shot in the head with a silencer by Mr. Wrench.

A few days later, Homeland Security Agent Gloria Burgle meets with Varga who was incarcerated while trying to enter the country from Brussels. When he doesn’t seem to recognize her, she presents him with the security photograph Winnie gave her of him in the elevator at the storage facility. He tries convincing her that reality is in the eye of the beholder before she informs him that Emmit Stussy was recently murdered. Varga then describes how Emmit as a human being had negative value due to his living off of government welfare and therefore his death was factually non-tragic. Gloria responds by telling him what’s going to happen next.

-->'''Gloria:''' Three agents from Homeland Security are gonna put handcuffs on you and take you to Rikers, and then we’re gonna charge you with federal money laundering and six counts of conspiracy to commit murder. Then I’m gonna go home to my son. It’s his birthday tomorrow. I promised I’d take him to the state fair. You ever guess a pig’s weight or eat a deep fried Snickers bar? There’s no better way to spend a Saturday in this, our great American experiment.

Varga is unimpressed, and feels compelled to share what he believes is going to go down.

-->'''Varga:''' What’s going to happen next is this: in five minutes, that door is going to open, and a man you can’t argue with will tell me I’m free to go, and I will stand from this chair and disappear into the world so help me God.
-->'''Gloria:''' Rikers and Snickers bars. You’ll see.

Both stand confidently behind their perception of what’s about to happen, and as the camera pans closer to the door, the episode ends before either is confirmed or denied.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: Ruby Goldfarb had acted affable towards Emmit and Sy for the bulk of the season. It is revealed, however, that she'd been ruthlessly conspiring with Varga to take over their business from the beginning.

* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Turns out Ruby had been working with Varga the whole time to acquire Stussy Lots, and the plan works perfectly (at least from her end).

* KarmaHoudini: PlayedWith. Varga believes his connections will come through for him and he'll walk out of custody with no repercussions. It's never revealed whether this happens or not.
