* {{Angrish}}: Gohan's first Super Saiyan transformation leaves him snarling with barely-repressed anger as he tries to control himself. [[FailedASpotCheck Goku doesn't seem to catch on and just cheerfully asks if Gohan would like a haircut.]]

* WilfullyWeak: Viciously deconstructed. Trunks is trying to hide his newfound power from Vegeta, not wanting to injure his father’s pride. The problem is that he [[HonorBeforeReason goes out of his way to do this]] even when the situation demands he go all out. He admits to holding back while fighting Semi-Perfect Cell, which earns him a tongue-lashing from Krillin, and then continues to make excuses not to power up while Perfect Cell is on the brink of killing Vegeta.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWish: Vegeta allowed Cell to achieve his Perfect form so he can get a better challenge than his Semi-Perfect self. Unfortunately for the prince, Cell easily trounces him after surviving his most powerful attack to date.

* WhatTheHellHero: Krillin deduces that Trunks was holding back against Semi-Perfect Cell earlier, and Trunks confesses that he did so because he didn't want Vegeta to realize how powerful he'd become. Krillin angrily calls him out for this, as it led to Android 18 getting absorbed and Cell reaching his Perfect form.

Trunks found a way to surpass Vegeta in strength while they were training in the Time Chamber, but kept it a secret, fearing that the knowledge would shatter his father's Saiyan pride. As a result, he held back in the battle against Semi-Perfect Cell, which ended up allowing Cell to absorb 18 and reach his Perfect form. Worse, even as Cell starts making mincemeat of Vegeta, Trunks keeps coming up with excuses to avoid powering up in front of his father. It's only when Cell is on the brink of ''murdering'' an unconscious Vegeta (and Krillin reminds him that they don't have Dragon Balls anymore) that the Saiyan from the future reveals his hidden power.

* WillfullyWeak: Viciously deconstructed. Trunks found a way to surpass Vegeta in strength while they were training, but kept it a secret, fearing that the knowledge would shatter his father's Saiyan pride. This, however, lead to him holding back against Semi-Perfect Cell while Vegeta was around, which ended up allowing Cell to absorb 18 and reach his Perfect form. When Krillin learns this, he furiously tears into him (see WhatTheHellHero above) for essentially allowing 18 to die just to spare Vegeta's feelings.

* LateToTheRealization: It's only now that Trunks realizes that Krillin's plan was to keep 18 alive the entire time, as he previously assumed that blowing up 18 was the whole point of the plan, and he'd thought it impossible to view the Androids as anything more than killing machines.

* WhatTheHellHero: Krillin deduces that Trunks was holding back against Cell earlier, and Trunks confesses that he did so because he didn't want Vegeta to realize how powerful he was. Krillin furiously chews him out for this, as it led to Android 18 getting absorbed.

* BreakTheHaughty: In the last two episodes, Vegeta was self-assured and had Cell practically cowering. The shoe ends up on the other foot, as Cell shoots down every attempt at trash talk and utterly humiliates him, completely regaining his confidence and then some.

Cell has an OhCrap just before it hits him, and the reveal shows that the attack blew a huge chunk out of Cell, including his arm and part of his torso. Vegeta rejoices... and then Cell regrows all the damage without any sign that it has truly hurt him at all.
