* JerkAss: The original negotiator, Dennis Kole, is this. He's incredibly rude to Jake since it was supposed to be his first hostage negotiation before Judy requested Jake, having only negotiated with suicidal people beforehand and when Jake tries to reassure that he was still doing good, he dismisses it as "saving a crazy person's life", and even then he was doing badly. When Jake reveals what Judy wants, he's quick to be skeptical of the info's validity, [[JerkassHasAPoint understandable seeing as Judy's a criminal who's evaded capture for a while]], and wants to have Jake lure Judy to the window so he can have a sniper take him out, [[DisproportionateRetribution less understandable.]] Impressions worsen when, after figuring out that Jake and Judy tricked him so they could catch an infamous drug dealer, he only agrees to help in exchange for getting credit for the arrest, being more concerned with getting a promotion than getting a dangerous criminal off the streets.
* JurisdictionFriction: Dennis Kole, the hostage negotiator assigned to the case, is angry that some nobodies from the Nine-Nine are doing his job, even though he himself doesn't much care for it.

Even so, he's BrutallyHonest in that unless Jake gets the diamonds and Doug Judy, he'll probably lose his badge.
