* BrickJoke: In Batman’s flashback, Hourman chastises him for not using a cool one-liner before beating his foes. In the present, after the usual PreAsskickingOneLiner from Batman, Hourman expresses his pride.

* {{Flashback}}:
** Black Canary recalls her training, where she feels she was saddled with mere aiming practice, while Batman got more BadassNormal-type training. Later, Batman's perspective shows he was doing a bank heist simulation, after which he is criticized for not doing better.
** Wildcat explains to Black Canary how her mother died and the promise he made.

* GrassIsGreener: Black Canary chafes at constantly being coddled by the Justice Society, as if she were a child. She views Batman being held in high esteem, but he is shown to regularly be second guessed and criticized. From Batman's perspective, Black Canary was considered the favorite.

* HeyYouHaymaker: After Degaton decks Black Canary, he notices someone grabbing his shoulder.
-->'''Batman:''' Didn't your mother ever tell you it's not nice to hit a lady? ''[pow!]''

* LastRequest: Before dying, Black Canary's mother tells Wildcat to watch over her daughter.
* LikeASonToMe: In the end, Hawkman says the older heroes do treat Batman and Black Canary like kids sometimes for this reason.
* MyGreatestFailure: Wildcat in particular coddles Black Canary out of guilt, due to being there when her mother died.

* NoodleIncident: Batman recently saved the city from Captain Cold and Mirror Master. The older heroes chastise him for failing to stop four mooks from escaping, though.

* RightForTheWrongReasons: Black Canary says she's treated differently than Batman, but she feels it's on the basis of her being a woman. Wildcat admits she is indeed treated differently, but only due to the team feeling protective of her after her mother died.
* SoProudOfYou: Wildcat feels Black Canary's mother would be very proud to see her now. He also congratulates her for trashing Degaton's army.

* UnwantedAssistance: Batman has to deal with the JSA bugging him on how to use his equipment. Which ''he'' built.

The Teaser: Batman and Detective Chimp thwart False Face.

The Main episode: At a reunion for the Justice Society of America, an old villain of their returns for revenge. Now Batman and Black Canary must deal with him, and their own issues with their mentors.

!!Tropes:
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: The first Black Canary, founding member of the JSA, was done in by... some falling rubble.
* FountainOfYouth: While Degatron's spear can age the JSA into an even ''older'' state, it can do the reverse, temporarily turning the elderly heroes into what they were like in their prime. In the end, Degaton and Zee are zapped back to being toddlers.
* GoodCopBadCop: The teaser has Batman and Detective Chimp doing this. Batman's ''not'' the bad cop (which, if you know your chimps, is pretty fair. They're vicious.)
* GrumpyOldMan:
** Batman zapped by Degaton turns into one.
** Not that Wildcat is any slouch himself.
--->'''Wildcat:''' I turn my back on you for one minute and you're eighty years old and covered in robots!
* HurricaneOfPuns: The newscaster in the flashback cracks puns about what each displayed JSA member is doing.
* IdenticalGrandson: Dinah and Dina Lance, the Black Canaries. The only thing distinguishing Dinah from her mom is she doesn't wear a mask.
* NoSwastikas: Some decades ago, America and the Justice Society took part in some sort of military conflict, the opposing forces of which were led by the German-accented Per Degaton. Degaton's explicit country of origin, political affiliations and general motivation beyond TakeOverTheWorld go very distinctly unmentioned.
* OldSuperhero: The JSA, consisting here of Hourman, Hawkman, Wildcat, Flash and Doctor Midnight. They're all pretty elderly, and part way through the episode Doctor Midnight sombrely declares their true foe is simply time itself.
* StayInTheKitchen: Initially seems to be the case with Black Canary, the only gal around in the JSA, which she finds irritating as all get out. Wildcat eventually reveals it's not because they don't think she can handle herself, but rather they consider themselves more expendable than her.
* UnwantedAssistance: Batman has to deal with the JSA bugging him on how to use his equipment. Which ''he'' built.
