* VillainousBreakdown: When it becomes clear that Ben Zayn is looking to ruin that man he thinks stole command of Babylon 5 from him (and has more or less confessed all to his own interrogation recorders), he loses it, drawing a gun on the command staff and accusing them of mutiny, threatening to execute them for same then and there. Gray stops him by [[ImHavingSoulPains projecting pain directly into his mind]], which gives Sinclair an opening to knock Ben Zayn out.

* LoopholeAbuse: While Sinclair's {{Rules Lawyer}}ing (as noted under MyRuleFuIsStrongerThanYours) only gets him so far, he does land two particularly clever hits on Ben Zayn, both related to the telepathic scan. First, after reading the new regulations he discovers that by invoking a particular law in the Earthforce Code, he can abrogate the scan altogether (it is meant only to determine the truthfulness of charges, which must be officially and specifically lodged, and the invoked law can only be challenged before a tribunal of five senior officers). Then later, after Ben Zayn has charged Sinclair and replaced him as commander of Babylon 5, and is preparing to have him and the others scanned, Sinclair states that Ben Zayn himself should also be scanned since he is now part of the very command staff he's investigating. The colonel sneeringly rejects this, but from Gray's face it seems clear he accepted the reasoning, thus leading to the scan that exposes the truth--though with how emotional Sinclair and Ben Zayn get, it probably wasn't even that necessary.

* RuggedScar: If his perpetual scowl was not enough to show that Colone Ben Zayn is a tough-as-nails character, he also sports one such scar on the right side of his face.

* AirplaneArms: In a blink and you'll miss it moment, near the end of the episode when Sinclair & Ivanova are about to enter the Lift, Garibaldi & Lennier pass by aboard the former's motorcycle. You can see that Lennier has his arm stretched out like a plane as he, Garibaldi, and the bike pass onto view. Ivanova takes a moment before making a quip about how good it is that things are back to normal.

Garibaldi's earlier query regarding Ben Zayn and Grey has revealed something interesting. Ben Zayn was in the top ten considered for command of Babylon 5. He is also an associate of the Psi Cop Bester, who assigned Mr. Gray to Ben Zayn. He is then informed of a disturbance.

Sinclair is on a call with a general who, while he could order Ben Zayn to stand down, will not. There are powerful influences behind this, people Sinclair's been pissing off all year. And the President immigration laws will soon be in the Senate, so he won't intervene either.

renaming tropes is not allowed (and unnecessary, because it's not referring to that kind of general)

* [[TheInquisitorGeneral The Inquisitor Colonel]]: Ari Ben Zayn in particular, and Internal Investigations ("Eyes") in general.

* DoggedNiceGuy: A non-romantic (maybe) example; Harriman Gray keeps trying to get Ivanova to at least tolerate him, even though the fact that he's in Psi Corps immediately causes her to want nothing to do with him.

* DoggedNiceGuy: A non-romantic (maybe) example; Harriman Gray keeps trying to get Ivanova to at least tolerate him, even though the fact that he's in Psi Corps immediately causes her to want nothing to do with him. It's not because he's interested in Ivanova herself, but what she represents: The [=EarthForce=] career that he dreamed about as a child, but could never have because he was a telepath. If he can get her to accept him despite the hatred she has for the [=PsiCorps=], then it would be like [=EarthForce=] itself accepting him.

Asskicking Leads To Leadership is the new name of the trope.

* ColonelBadass: Ben Zayn is a brash, unsympathetic figure here, but it's implied that he has [[AsskickingEqualsAuthority definitely earned his rank]].

** Gray notes that the thought of Talia Winters is particularly loud in Ivanova's mind. [[spoiler:The two will end up having a relationship, though tragically cut short.]]
