* LogicalWeakness: Azula may have the rage and potency needed to win an Agni Kai. There is one problem that works again her: firebenders need air, a clear dry space, and movement. Katara, fortunately, remembers this from Aang's firebending lessons and lures Azula onto a storm drain. She raises the water just as Azula gasps out a breath, immersing them in ice. Azula goes OhCrap on remembering she can't breathe in ice, let alone underwater, meaning she can't shoot out fire to free herself. Katara takes advantage of her incapacitated state to chain her up and win the fight since Azula can only shoot out fire from her mouth when restrained from the torso down.

* SuperMode: Aang enters the Avatar State when a protruding rock hurts his wound in the back, realigning his blocked chakra. After that it's a CurbStompBattle against Ozai.

* SympathyForTheDevil: Zuko and Katara's reaction towards Azula during her final breakdown is pure pity, not joy or satisfaction.

* BackForTheFinale: Mai, Ty Lee, Hakoda, Batou, the Duke, Pipsqueak, Teo and the Mechanist, Haru and his father, the Kyoshi Warriors, the Boulder and the Hippo.

Aang uses his knowledge from the lion-turtle--a newly acquired bending ability called energybending--to permanently strip Ozai of his firebending abilities, defeating the Phoenix King without taking his life. Newly appointed Fire Lord Zuko declares the war over, with the Avatar at his side. Zuko and Mai reconcile officially, and Zuko confronts his imprisoned father, angrily asking where his mother, Ursa, is being kept. Ozai's response is not shown. Some time later, Aang and his friends celebrate together at Iroh's tea shop in Ba Sing Se. Aang and Katara share a loving hug and kiss passionately before the sunset.

* CruelMercy: Aang manages to uphold his beliefs and spares Ozai's life, but he also ensures that this mercy didn't come without a price for Ozai, his firebending. Without firebending, Ozai becomes a miserable shell of a man. Lampshaded by Zuko who says that Ozai is "lucky" that the Avatar spared him, and he should use his time in prison as a chance for redemption.

* HappyEnding: They went through hell to get it, but in the end, the Gaang won out. All six members of Team Avatar walk away with their lives. Aang using [[TakeAThirdOption energybending]] to remove Ozai's firebending means he's able to defeat the Fire Lord without sacrificing [[ThouShaltNotKill his morals.]] The war is ended with Zuko as Fire Lord promising to repair the damage inflicted by his forefathers. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Iroh gets his tea shop back.]] And on the romance front: Sokka & Suki are still going strong, Zuko & Mai rekindle their relationship, while Aang and Katara [[BigDamnKiss finally get together]].

** Once Ozai accidentally helps unblock Aang’s seventh chakra and helps him enter the Avatar State, he looks quite scared now that Aang is in the Avatar State and spends a good portion of the fight fleeing.
** Ozai looks absolutely terrified as he’s pinned down and as Aang, in the Avatar State, declares that he will pay the price for all he and his ancestors have done.

* OminousLatinChanting: During the flashback with the Lion Turtle. Technically it’s Ominous Buddhist Chanting. It’s an actual Buddhist chant called [[https://youtu.be/uEkyfWcv6Rg “Na Mo A Mi Tuo Fo Shin Di"]].

* TerribleArtist: Sokka makes a painting to commemorate the moment of everyone at Iroh’s tea shop. Once everyone sees it, they comment on how awful Sokka’s depictions of them are.

* TooDumbToLive: After Aang opts to not kill Ozai, the Fire Lord attempts to attack Aang when his back is turned. He still doesn’t realize how dumb it is to challenge the Avatar when he has the power to obliterate Ozai in an instant.

** While Ozai didn't have a massive breakdown like his daughter, he loses all composure when faced against Aang in the Avatar State. When he's pinned down and facing the judgement of the Avatar, his face is full of fear, almost pleading for mercy despite his contempt for such concepts overall.

* WorldsStrongestMan: Aang in his Avatar State ''exhaustively'' demonstrates why it's foolish to challenge an Avatar, as Ozai, the strongest Firebender in the planet ''combined'' with the boost of Sozin's comet found out.
