* ElectromagneticGhosts: Fitz, Coulson and Robbie aren't dead, but [[OurGhostsAreDifferent merely trapped between dimensions like Lucy and the others]]. The difference is their condition is so advanced they can't interact with their environment at all, except moments where they're incredibly desperate, then electronics respond. Robbie's car turns on its left turn signal as he's shouting for Daisy to go that way, and [[RidiculouslyHumanRobot Aida]] picks up on Fitz's pleas that she read the Darkhold.

S.H.I.E.L.D. must deal with the disappearance of its agents after Eli Morrow's experiment.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When Mack, the by far most reasonable and law-abiding member of Team Coulson, punches out an agent and rides off without permission, you know something is off. The agent in question also gets thrown across the hangar bay, which indicates that ''something'' has happened.

** Radcliffe reveals to May (and Fitz to Coulson simultaneously) that Aida is an android/gynoid. Coulson is angered with Fitzgerald; May just accepts that Aida is a tool that they can use.

When he makes it back through the dimensional arch, the first thing he does is confront Jeffrey about this, going so far as to get right in his face and even poke the super-strong Inhuman(and his boss) in the chest.

* AIIsACrapshoot: It's implied that the Darkhold didn't just teach Aida how to make an interdimensional gateway, but has given her true intelligence or driven her to design one, as the final shot has her assembling a brain using the gloves that she made the portal with.

* TheBet: Mention is made of a wager Coulson made with Fury over who's led the crazier life, with a ten year old bottle of expensive scotch on the line. After being knocked out of phase with reality and nearly sucked into an alternate dimension, Coulson tells May that the next time he meets the former Director, he's collecting the bottle.

* DealWithTheDevil: Robbie makes a new deal with the Rider, who is unwilling to carry on their original contract after spilling the blood of all those who Robbie wanted vengeance against. Robbie promises the Rider to instead settle the Rider's scores, provided the Rider helps him settle his last one with Eli.

* DemonicPossession: The Rider abandons Robbie and possesses Mack, as he is unwilling to be DraggedOffToHell with Robbie. Robbie convinces him to abandon Mack, who won't be able to sustain the Rider for very long, in exchange for agreeing to become a much more permanent host.

* LethalHarmlessPowers: Eli can manipulte carbon -- so far only in the form of coal. He manages to kill four people by conjuring spikes of coal into their bodies from halfway down a hall.

Aida's robotic brain, however, can efficiently process the information (printed in binary for her), allowing her to assemble a dimensional portal.

* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: By the end of the episode, Aida is effectively a robotic sorcerer.

* PapaWolf: Jeffrey is '''furious''' when Nadeer won't let him talk to Jemma and he immediately tries to get her back.
