* A great example of the "That's why I can beat you" outcome is a scene in ''Series/BloodTies2007'' where the cornered freaked-out vampire (abandoned by its sire) tells Henry that he too is a monster and Henry answers "But I am the monster who is coming out of this alive.".

Misplaced, moving to the correct tab

* ''Series/AgentsOfSHIELD'':
** When Robbie captures Daisy, he says that they're not very different. They're both vigilantes going after the same groups; the difference is that she tries to avoid killing if she can, and [[DetectEvil Robbie doesn't need proof to kill people]]. She turns this around on him when she suggests they work together.
--->'''Daisy:''' We want the same thing.\\
'''Robbie:''' No, we don't.\\
'''Daisy:''' You ''just said'' we're not that different.\\
'''Robbie:''' ''[glares]''\\
'''Daisy:''' I'm sorry, but you did. Like, ten seconds ago.
** In season 4 the cast is put into a ''[[Film/TheMatrix Matrix]]'' style scenario called The Framework where they live alternate lives that had them ''not'' suffer their greatest regret, Fitz gets to grow up with his father being supportive and nurturing instead of [[ParentalNeglect neglectful]]. However, as his father is a cruel sociopathic bastard, this makes Fitz grow up to be a cold, calculating, remorseless, sadistic MadScientist TortureTechnician instead of the good person he normally was. When he's freed, [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone it hits him like a semi-truck]] that he's really not that different than Grant Ward as all it took to push both of them down a horrible path was one very bad influence. [[HeroicBSOD He does not take it well]].

* ''Series/{{Arrow}}''
** In "Muse of Fire", [[ComicBook/{{Huntress}} Helena]] says this to Oliver Queen, despite his insistence that what he does is about justice, not vengeance. (She has a list like his, and breaks a man's neck because "no-one can know my secret", just like Oliver does in the pilot.) He tries to mentor her as a vigilante but only succeeds in making her a more dangerous killer. In later seasons he admits he failed because at the time they really weren't so different, as Oliver hadn't adopted his ThouShaltNotKill rule.
** In "Dodger" the VillainOfTheWeek argues to the Arrow that he's stealing from the rich just like him. It's not an argument Oliver buys. First, he's not JustLikeRobinHood as everyone assumes, and second he doesn't put exploding collars on people to force them to steal for him.
** In "Streets of Fire", Thea discovers her supervillain father is NotQuiteDead and threatens to shoot him. When she carries out the threat (Malcolm is wearing a BulletproofVest) he says it only proves his point that they are the same. (As with Helena, Thea accepts training from Malcolm but turns out to be NotSoSimilar.)
--->'''Thea:''' I'll shoot you. I will!
--->'''Malcolm:''' I can see it in your eyes. My eyes. They're just like mine. Both of them filled with pain and anger, because those we loved were ripped from us.

* ''Series/Batwoman2019''
** After realising her sister Kate Kane is Batwoman, Alice says that her dressing up in that costume makes her just as crazy as she is.
** Alice says that like her years of captivity, Sophie has also been kept "imprisoned" in a sense with being closeted about her attraction to women.
* A great example of the "That's why I can beat you" outcome is a scene in ''Series/BloodTies2007'' where the cornered freaked-out vampire (abandoned by its sire) tells Henry that he too is a monster and Henry answers "But I am the monster who is coming out of this alive."

* ''Series/TheFlash2014'': Part of Zoom's anarchist "fun" during the final Season 2 story arc was trying to pull this with Barry. [[spoiler: ''It almost worked''.]]

* ''Series/LegendsOfTomorrow'': The first season had one between Ray and Mick after Ray took a beating for Mick, and Mick thought he was an idiot. Ray says that he took a beating for Mick because of things that are more important than surviving, despite the fact that he could have been killed, and tells Mick that there must be something he views as worth dying for. Mick replies that he'd die for the perfect score, and Ray replies that the only difference between them is how they define a score.

* ''Series/Lucifer2016'': In Season 6, we get Lucifer and Chloe's daughter Rory from the future (long story). When Lucifer describe her to Amenadiel as "Resting mean face. Loves blaming others. Combative, rebellious, claims I abandoned her.", Amenadiel inmediately notes the similarities with a "maybe she is your daughter". Linda, for her part, lampshaded how much alike Lucifer and his daughter are, which the duo's reply is... to let out near-identical scoffs and crossing legs.
* ''Series/LukeCage2016'': Bushmaster claims this of he and Luke and tells Luke he's reluctant to kill him because of it.

* ''Series/{{Smallville}}'':
** In "[[Recap/SmallvilleS07E04Cure Cure]]", Clark has a moment of this with the [[Characters/DCComicsVandalSavage Vandal Savage]] {{Expy}} Dr. Curtis Knox. Also an ActorAllusion because Knox is played by [[Series/LoisAndClark Dean Cain]].
--->'''Clark:''' I won't let you kill anyone else.\\
'''Dr. Knox:''' I'd kill a thousand more to never have to be alone. [[WhoWantsToLiveForever You don't know the pain of living centuries watching the women you love grow old and turn to dust]]! \\
'''Clark:''' You and I are more alike than you think.
** Lex says this to Pete, saying he knows how it is to love someone who is still infatuated with Clark Kent. [[spoiler: [[SubvertedTrope But considering that he drugged Lana with synthetic hormones to fake a pregnancy and trick her into marrying him, emotionally abused her, and basically showed that he didn't love her at all, it falls flat.]]]]
** "[[Recap/SmallvilleS08E14Requiem Requiem]]":
*** When Chloe [[WhatTheHellHero confronts]] Oliver for killing [[spoiler:Lex, who was actively trying to nuke Metropolis at the time]].
---->'''[[{{Hypocrite}} Chloe]]:''' This is ''[[ThouShaltNotKill murder]]''.\\
'''[[ComicBook/GreenArrow Oliver]]:''' This is ''[[IDidWhatIHadToDo justice]]''.
*** He then retaliates by pointing out that she [[spoiler:{{Mind Rape}}d a bad guy into a catatonic state to protect Clark, though it remains purposely vague whether this was because of Brainiac's influence or not.]] Either way, Chloe immediately falls silent and doesn't dispute this.
** Tess once said this of Chloe and herself.
** A rare heroic variation takes place in the Season 10 episode "[[Recap/SmallvilleS10E04Homecoming Homecoming]]" when Brainiac 5 (fresh from his HeelFaceTurn), encourages Clark not to abandon his destiny as a hero:
--->'''Brainiac 5:''' The problem is Kal-El, you and I aren't very different. We were both created in one way or another by Jor-El, both intended to save civilizations, to bring peace to a brutal world. But neither was immune to corruption to darkness."

-->'''Fielding:''' There are two sides to our heads, Smiley. I mean you've done unspeakable things too--I know you have! Sabotage, silent killings! My brother told me: the garotte, the hand, the knife... It was to preserve, Smiley...to preserve what we believe in! Us, our kind, people like us! The best of England. ''(Ailsa gets up from the table and stands next to Smiley)'' Miss Brimley, you too; you worked with him. I mean you're as guilty as any assassin with a knife. Both of you guilty. ''You can't judge me! I'm one of you!''

Arisugawa goes on to wonder what would happen if the two of them were to meet. This happens in the next episode, and Himura chews out Apollo for giving in to his murderious urges where [[ReluctantPsycho Himura did not]].
