** What really turns it scary is when Kaa shakes himself off from the whack Bagheera gave him, turns to the panther, and tells him what a serious mistake he's just made. If you never thought that voice could be cold and threatening, you were ''wrong.'' Not to mention the implication that he's capable of killing and/or eating ''a panther'' hence why even Bagheera was intimidated by him. Thank God Mowgli had been there to push Kaa out of the tree before Kaa could've made Bagheera his dinner (with Mowgli probably being dessert).

Remember...pythons (especially ones as big as Kaa) often eat one big meal and then go for weeks or even months between meals.

** Kaa's whole entrance is a nice little JumpScare with a hypnotic bansuri (a flute commonly associated with Indian music) in the scoring. Even scarier is that Mowgli (who has his back turned and busy focused on the stick he's playing with) and Bagheera (who is trying to sleep) are completely unaware that he was in the tree they've decided to take shelter in.

** Pythons that size ''are'' capable of that. Leopards (any color) are a standard, albeit rare, part of their diet.

** When Kaa manages to capture Mowgli a second time, he's interrupted from his repast by Shere Khan looking for the man cub. Throughout their entire interaction, Kaa is pissing his proverbial pants...and Shere Khan's body language and tone of voice makes it pretty clear that he ''knows'' Kaa is lying to his face and decides to toy with the terrified python for funsies. You know the big cat is bad news when your character (who nearly manages to kill the hero not once but twice) is freaking terrified of him.

* Shere Khan, period. [[KnightOfCerebus Whenever he's around, the comedy ends and you run for your life]];[[HorrifyingTheHorror even Kaa himself becomes very nervous at Khan's presence.]] His initial leap at Mowgli, complete with a thunderclap and ungodly roar is quite frightening.

** When Baloo manages to stall Shere Khan long enough for the vultures to get Mowgli to safety, the tiger loses all control and begins delivering a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown on the bear, beginning by effortlessly flipping Baloo, who's ''twice his size'', then tearing into him with his claws and teeth. ** Before that, Shere Khan manages to bite Baloo's rear. While something like this would usually be funny in a Disney movie, here it just looks ''painful'', even though no blood is drawn.

* While extremely brief, King Louie's reaction upon Baloo's disguise falling off is initially shock, before his countenance takes on an expression that is the complete opposite of his typical jovial self and makes one wonder, just what else he would do beyond kidnapping.

*** Adding to that, it's pretty unnerving how Kaa was willing to act friendly to Mowgli and try to convince the human boy to trust him. Then, when his intentions had been made clear, Kaa didn't bother with his pretense to be trustworthy and starts advancing towards Mowgli. It's only because he had a knot in his tail (again) that Mowgli was able to escape the snake.

** During their first encounter, Mowgli seems to have been aware enough about what Kaa’s intentions for him were and tried to get Bagheera’s help. The only reason he was barely successful was because Bagheera was sleeping and thought Mowgli was trying to argue some more and Kaa tightly wrapping his tail around Mowgli’s throat. If Kaa hadn’t said anything, Bagheera wouldn’t have known Mowgli was in danger.

** There’s also Mowgli’s second encounter with Kaa. This time, he’s all alone without Baloo or Bagheera around to protect him. Kaa also preys upon Mowgli’s vulnerability and manages to hypnotize him when his guard is down. He was dangerously close to succeeding in eating Mowgli again, but failed because one: Shere Khan overheard him singing to the boy and two: Kaa shook his coils and unintentionally woke up Mowgli. If neither of those things happened, then Mowgli most definitely would be the snake’s lunch.
