** There is also the idea that when Equestria was restored at the end of the film, un-petrifying the princesses and Derpy, the Storm King's pieces, which aren't seen again (outside of the credits) after everything is restored, may have been turned back into flesh. However, as his remains have vanished from where he shattered during the restoration of Canterlot, it is most likely that the staff's power erased them at this point instead.

** What makes it worse is that this wouldn't have happened had [[NiceJobBreakingItHero Rainbow Dash not done a Sonic Rainboom at that point in time]]. Had the pirates actually died, [[FridgeHorror Rainbow Dash would have had to live with being responsible for the lives of five harpies she recently befriended]].

** There is also the chance that when Equestria was restored at the end of the film, un-petrifying the princesses and Derpy, the Storm King's pieces, which aren't seen again (outside of the credits) after everything is restored, may have been turned back into flesh.

* Those orbs that [[TakenForGranite turn the Princesses to stone]] apparently don't put you in stasis. As noted below, the Storm King is conscious in his frozen state, which implies that all three princesses and Derpy were fully conscious despite being turned to/encased in stone.

* After Twilight unsuccessfully tries to steal the Pearl of Transformation from the hippogryphs, Queen Novo [[TranquilFury tells them that they'll never be one of them]], and turns them back into ponies while they're still deep underwater. The gasping the Mane Six make when they get back to the surface indicates they just barely avoided drowning after losing their Seapony abilities when the furious Novo turned them back to normal.

** Heck, the petrification in general. Cadance tries to block the first of Tempest's Obsidian Orbs with her shield spell, but it burns through and she can't stop the stone from overtaking her and covering her completely, and she's frozen with a horrified expression. Celestia ''instantly'' realizes how bad this is and orders Luna to flee for help from Queen Novo, and is petrified mid-sentence. Luna is horrified, but takes flight, only to be attacked by Tempest while in ''mid-air'' and turned to stone. Only Twilight's telekinesis prevented her from smashing on the ground...which also left Twilight a sitting duck. Luna nearly ''died'' in the first ten minutes of the film, and saving her left Twilight wide open for attack. If not for [[BigDamnHeroes Rainbow Dash's]] [[FreezeFrameBonus last-second rescue]] and Derpy's HeroicSacrifice, Twilight would have been turned to stone as well, and [[TheBadGuyWins Tempest would have won immediately]] instead of it being a NearVillainVictory and giving the Mane Six reason to leave Equestria to find help.
** And what a heroic sacrifice! We see Twilight as a sitting duck and hear someone scream "Princess Twilight!" right before the Obsidian Orb goes off. It looks like it caught Twilight too...only to reveal it as Derpy/Muffins, frozen mid-dash and mid-shove from pushing Twilight out of the way, and her fake party horn slowly falls off, which sets off Tempest's BerserkButton when she realizes Twilight escaped the same fate as the other Princesses. Aside from Tempest's whole introduction, how can you tell this movie takes the DarkerAndEdgier trope? By ''having fan-favorite Derpy take the bullet'' when Tempest throws the Obsidian Orb that would have turned Twilight to stone and instantly secured victory for the Storm King right then and there. Sure, she gets restored to normal by the end, but it's still pretty bad.

* One of the merchants in [[WretchedHive Klugetown]] is selling ''unicorn horns'', and asks Twilight if she's in the mood to sell hers! And apparently slavery is all too common there, as Capper tried to sell them off to pay off a debt. Thank Celestia Capper had a HeelFaceTurn, or things could've gotten much darker.
