* After banishing the Light from one region in the First, Emet-Selch will extol the incredible spectacle of the restored sky. Except, this doesn't take place in a prerendered cutscene and so shows the weather conditions at the time. Meaning there's a decent chance Emet-Selch will be praising the beauty of the sky while it's gray and muggy out, or raining, or experiencing some other form of inclement weather.

* After banishing the Light from one region Il Mheg in the First, Emet-Selch appears at the Crystarium and will extol the incredible spectacle of the restored sky. Except, this doesn't take place in a prerendered cutscene, nor does the game adjust the skies for the sake of the cutscene and (like with the two previous times Night was restored), so it shows the cities current weather conditions condition at the time. Meaning there's a decent chance Emet-Selch will be praising the beauty of the sky while it's gray and muggy out, or raining, or experiencing some other form of inclement weather.

* For an admittingly non-canon example, it can be unintentionally funny when you complete the Savage version of floors 8 and 12 of the Eden raid, the fights against Ryne (channeling the primal Shiva) and Gaia (after fully accepting herself as Loghrif after Mitron dies, once again, not canon) respectively. In the normal version, you defeat Ryne non-lethally and separate Gaia from Mitron. But in the savage version of the fights, both of them just explode after being defeated. And what makes this particularly funny is the fact that in the "Victory" shot of your party, rather than looking sad as they often do after a emotionally difficult battle, they ''cheer''. Never mind that their friend(s) just exploded into nothing.

* In the final area, just about all of the Warrior of Light's companions perform some kind of a HeroicSacrifice so that you can keep moving forward. Unfortunately, they happen so rapidly that it stops becoming sad, and just becomes hilarious - especially when the characters [[MoodWhiplash start behaving so casually]] as they move on. Absolutely [[LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt nobody thought for a moment]] that they would be KilledOffForReal, yet the narration was trying to make it sound like you really were possibly saying goodbye forever.
** Y'shtola in particular acts so casual as she does it, mentioning the warrior can just use the crystal of Azem to bring them all back. She does it in such a way that it sounds more like someone saying "Just go on ahead - I'll catch up in a bit" rather than the words someone would make before a HeroicSacrifice. Almost like she was aware that they were making a ComicBookDeath.
*** And then Urianger joins in, almost like he just wants to get it over with.
** The MoodWhiplash of the warrior using the crystal and summoning Hythlodeus and Emet-Selch against Meteion, and when Emet-Selch decides to just bring everyone else back. After the emotional scenes before, instead it can come off as more humorous than sad or awesome, especially since the other Scions were probably "dead" for only a ''few minutes''.

* As with every other MMORPG, you can enforce this with character choices.
** You can go into battle or very dramatic scenes while making your character wear {{Stripperific}} clothing at inappropriate times. Imagine trying to confront the EvilEmpire when you're half-naked. Even worse, most of the climatic story beats include multiplayer duties that for most players will likely be done alongside random other players. So ''you'' may look appropriate for your fight with the BigBad, but you're being backed up by a girl in a swimsuit and a guy in a chocobo costume.
** Alternatively, your weapon can ruin some serious moments. One minute you're staring down your adversary, the next moment, you draw your weapon and a cutesy "kupo!" breaks the silence.
** Just playing as a [[LittlePeople Lalafell]] can do the trick if you're trying to make some scenes unintentionally funny. Since a Lalafell is only about half the height of the average Hyur, making your character out to be some sort of PintSizedPowerhouse version of TheChosenOne can get pretty silly.
** You can invoke this if you give your character a [[HelloInsertNameHere really silly name]]. Gives the characters a reason to refer to by your title of "Warrior of Light" rather than a silly name you gave your character.
* Most of the time the differences between male and female gear are minimal. Other times they veer into ChainmailBikini territory or get wildly impractical, such as the Drachen/Wyrm Dragoon gear from the end of the ''A Realm Reborn'' Job Quests. On males, it looks as it should. On females, there's inexplicably a gigantic open gap in their entire abdomen region solely for the sake of RuleOfSexy. Keep in mind that around the point you're expected to acquire and use this gear, you're in the middle of the ''frozen tundra of Ishgard'', and all the later Dragoon Job Artifact sets match with their male counterparts, as if specifically remedying this one case.
* Playing a dancer in general can make the game utterly hard to take seriously. During scenes before fights, your character will get into their fighting pose, and the Dancer just bounces up and down in a very perky way. One way people get amusement from the Praetorium is by entering with utterly hilarious gear on top of that. You can hear your character bouncing up and down in an energetic way while the characters are speaking in what's supposed to be a HannibalLecture or a RousingSpeech.
* Most monk weapons look absolutely ridiculous - varying from simple brass knuckles to tonfas... to what look like can openers on your hands or ''cinderblocks'' on your hands. Naturally this can easily ruin the seriousness of any moments if you're playing a monk - or just Yda's UnfortunateCharacterDesign in ''A Realm Reborn'' wherein she is wielding weapons that should easily break if she punched them combined with her ''silly'' hat, which covers her eyes.

* The voice acting in ''A Realm Reborn'' is largely considered to be not very good. [[FakeBrit Noticeably fake accents that]] [[OohMeAccentsSlipping have a tendency to slip]] are par for the course, as well as being either [[LargeHam way too over-acted]] [[DullSurprise or way too under-acted]]. Ten years ago, the voice acting might've got a pass. But in the age of Hollywood-level excellence like ''VideoGame/MassEffect'', ''VideoGame/{{Uncharted}}'' and ''VideoGame/TheLastOfUs'', ''XIV'' is notably sub-par. Couple that with some frequently [[PurpleProse overwrought dialogue]], and you've got plenty of narm on your hands. Patch 2.2, at least, generally brought the quality of the voicework up to a much higher bar... in the patched content. It doesn't seem like Square is keen on going back and addressing the already-recorded dialogue.
** That beautiful moment in the English version when Minfilia and the other Scions discover that Thancred has been possessed by Lahabrea is supposed to be a dramatic moment. Minfilia lets out a BigNo, but her under-selling causes it to come off as DullSurprise, which ruins the drama. The fact that Lahabrea does a Saturday morning cartoon-esque EvilLaugh afterwards does ''not'' help matters.
** Note that the Japanese dub isn't immune from this, either. The voiced male Lalafells, especially in 2.2 (i.e. Lolorito and Teledji), are ''shockingly'' deep voices that would fit on a BadassBaritone character twice their size, far deeper than their counterparts in other languages. It can be weird as hell to hear voices that deep coming out of dudes barely three feet tall.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj6eQ7oitJo Yuyuhase's Japanese voice in particular]] just blows them all out of the water (spoiler warning).

* After completing the MSQ of ''ARR'' 2.0, you unlock flying for your mounts, as well as a flat increase to their speed. Later patches added the ability for any mount to fly, regardless of how much sense that made. Flying around on a chocobo, which is a horse-sized winged bird? Makes sense. Flying around in an Imperial suit of armor by turning it into a TransformingMecha? Kind of cool. Flying around on the back of a turtle, [[ShoutOut which spins around rapidly and fires rocket blasts out of its shell to fly]]? [[Film/{{Gamera}} Completely ridiculous]].

* The Imperial Soldiers have guns literally ''under'' their wrists, which makes one wonder how they ''don't'' burn themselves considering these are ''powder weapons''.
* Some of the gloves don't have fingers, meaning they look like ''oven mitts''. Armoured. ''Oven Mitts''.

* Finding out how Shiva solved the problem of her MayflyDecemberRomance with Hraesvelgr--she asked him to consume her. You might think this is metaphorical until you see the sepia-toned flashback still of Hraesvelgr about to literally eat her like a peanut. Ysayle relates this tale with a tone of reverent awe, leading to "holy vore" jokes from fans. Estinien, notably, changes the subject to Nidhogg immediately. (It also promotes some FridgeLogic when she says that this was the foundation of the original peace between dragons and people, given that "dragons eating maidens" is a ''cliche'' of dragon stories.)

** Earlier in the same dungeon, the first boss fight of a colossus enemy originally marched in from behind closed doors after Gaius proclaims the Warrior of Light and Cid can no longer be allowed to live as threats after they turned down his [[WeCanRuleTogether offer.]] Suitably dramatic. Cue the 6.1 patch, where instead he calmly walks over to the room's elevator as everyone stares at him, has it go down, and then everyone stands there for the next several seconds quietly as the elevator brings the boss back up. A tense scene is utterly deflated by [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim no one doing anything]] instead of being ambushed by surprise.

During this conversation, another player will be standing behind your Warrior, and will eventually make an awkward look towards the left side of the screen, where there is nothing in particular to look at. * The FinalBoss of the ''Realm Reborn'' storyline is a battle with Gaius in the Ultima Weapon, but after you beat the first phase you get the plot twist that the Ultima Weapon has the "ultimate magic" -- [[NukeEm Ultima]]. Not to mention Gaius is totally surprised at this most obvious of revelations while the revealer is about as [[ChewingTheScenery hammy about it]] as can be.

* The final duel with Zenos is truly epic if you are a martial class - ''especially'' a Dragoon, Monk, Marauder, or Reaper. Play a class like a Scholar, Red Mage, or Astrologian? It becomes ''quite'' funny.

* One way people get amusement from the Praetorium is by entering with utterly hilarious gear. Or you can play a monk or a dancer. You can hear your character bouncing up and down ''while the characters are speaking''.
** Playing a dancer in general can make the game utterly hard to take seriously. During scenes before fights, your character will get into their fighting pose, and the Dancer just bounces up and down in a very perky way.

Added DiffLines:

* Playing a few class quests after major events can be ''quite'' amusing when you have characters you've ''already met'' introduce themselves to you, or suddenly forget who you are:
** The Culinarian Quests for "A Realm Reborn" involve meeting Lolorito and Nanamo. Nanamo doesn't know who you are by this point - which makes sense at a certain point, but a few later quests make this a bit confusing since Nanamo ''does'' know who you are. For extra hilarity? Do this ''after'' she has been poisoned into a coma - meaning she will apparently ''wake up from her coma'' to go to a banquet.
** If you didn't start as a Lancer, Estinien will introduce himself to you and act as if he doesn't know you even if you've played ''all the way to Endwalker'', meaning he knows ''quite'' well.
* Frankly, multiple of the gathering or crafting quests features them looking over what you just found or made with their hands over them.

** Carpenter saws are big enough that they are actually placed on the character's back like a weapon... and when you combine this with the utterly ridiculous design of some [[https://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/fl_lossy,q_80/f_auto/v1/gameskinny/97bac1ec449905b0e1339c1b7b5baee9.jpg saws]], it looks hilarious. ''Especially'' since as demonstrated, putting the weapon on your back clips through.

* In the final area, just about all of the Warrior of Light's companions commit some kind of a HeroicSacrifice so that you can keep moving forward. Unfortunately, it starts happening so rapidly that it stops becoming sad, and just becomes hilarious - especially when the characters [[MoodWhiplash start behaving so casually]] as they move on. Absolutely [[LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt nobody thought for a moment]] that they would be KilledOffForReal, yet the narration was trying to make it sound like you really were possibly saying goodbye forever. Y'shtola in particular even mentions that they can be resurrected as long as their lingering will remains.

* True to any MMORPG, you can force this by making your character wear absolutely {{Stripperific}} clothing at inappropriate times. Hell, even just playing as a [[LittlePeople Lalafell]] can do the trick.
* There are many times in the game where a character will directly ask the player character something, but because the player character is basically a silent protagonist save for dialogue choices, this can result in just outright hilarious moments. A notable example is in the Praetorium dungeon, where before your fight with Gaius, he gives a lengthy monologue and rant, asking the Warrior of Light questions regarding their motive. Due to a patch removing the dialogue options, the player character just [[DullSurprise stares back at him]] in response and the game acts as if they responded to him somehow. The game gets much better at averting this issue as it went on, but moments like that still happen and are outright hilarious.
* The voice acting in ''A Realm Reborn'' is, on average... [[FakeBrit not]] [[OohMeAccentsSlipping very]] [[LargeHam good]]. Ten years ago, it might've got a pass, but in the age of ''VideoGame/MassEffect'', ''VideoGame/{{Uncharted}}'' and ''VideoGame/TheLastOfUs'', it's notably sub-par. Couple that with some frequently [[PurpleProse overwrought dialogue]] and you've got plenty of narm on your hands.
* That beautiful moment in the English version when Minfilia and the other Scions discover that Thancred has been possessed by Lahabrea. The fact that Lahabrea does a Saturday morning cartoon-esque EvilLaugh afterwards does ''not'' help matters.
-->'''Minfilia''': [[DullSurprise "Thancred. Nooooooo."]]
* The FinalBoss of the ''Realm Reborn'' storyline is a battle with Gaius in the Ultima Weapon, but after you beat the first phase you get the plot twist that the Ultima Weapon has the "ultimate magic" -- [[NukeEm Ultima]]. Not only is this treated with a serious shock and twist, it just comes off as awkwardly redundant in naming and phrasing. Not to mention Gaius is totally surprised at this most obvious of revelations while the revealer is about as [[ChewingTheScenery hammy about it]] as can be.
* The ''Realm Reborn'' Main Scenario Quest "All Good Things" features the player character returning to the Scions' home base to find it sacked by the Empire and nearly everyone dead. We see a flashback of what happened, including Imperial soldiers killing the survivors. It's a serious, horrific moment punctuated in the middle by a comical "g-huh!" sound as someone is stabbed to death.
** The journal and item descriptions' [[LemonyNarrator tendency to snark at everything]] never once drops, even for serious scenes such as this, leading to the MoodWhiplash of one of the corpses having a description talking about its now-calm expression, while the other seven all wonder [[{{Hammerspace}} how you fit the corpses into your bag]]. Not to mention the very fact that you're personally hauling corpses to a very nonchalant cart driver creates some comedy that contrasts with the drama of the preceding scenes.
* Another "A Realm Reborn" mission has you dress as an imperial soldier. Unfortunately the disguise only includes a hat and a chestpiece, meaning you can enter wearing either a skimpy pink skirt or pied piper pants. Or worse - pastel underwear with ''thigh high'' pastel boots.
* Patch 2.2, at least, generally brought the quality of the voicework up to a much higher bar... in the patch content. It doesn't seem like SE is keen on going back and addressing the already-recorded dialogue.
* Note that the ''Japanese'' isn't immune from this, either, bizarrely enough. The voiced male Lalafells, especially in 2.2 (i.e. Lolorito and Teledji), are ''shockingly'' deep, far deeper than their counterparts in other languages. It can be weird as hell to hear voices that deep coming out of dudes barely three feet tall.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj6eQ7oitJo Yuyuhase's Japanese voice in particular]] just blows them all out of the water (spoiler warning).
* The end of the Tam-Tara Hard questline, "Corpse Groom". So you've destroyed the Avere monstrosity, cleansed the Deepcroft again, and seen Edda fall to her doom. Paiyo is pretty much ready to hang up his adventuring spurs for good after all that, and then... he glances over to a lighting fixture, and Edda is standing there. The animation for this is ''insanely'' creepy in the best way, and ends with "Edda" giving Paiyo an amazing SlasherSmile. It's all fantastically creepy and the highlight of the patch AND THEN!... the narm sets in with Paiyo's reaction. The devs clearly wanted to convey his complete horror, but between Paiyo being a lalafell to start with and Square kind of hitting the limits of what XIV's real-time facial animation tech and their current character models are capable of, his expression is more "ridiculous" than terrified and pulls the viewer out of an otherwise stellar capstone to an excellent questline and dungeon.
* The developers run into this problem ''again'' with the ''Realm Reborn'' climax. Teledji, Raubahn and Ilberd all run into some serious expression issues that end up being more goofy than anything and pull you straight out of the action. Teledji is especially bad about this, but all three have some problems. The overdone lighting also doesn't help.
* For some reason, the Heavensward and King Thordan are given a voice filter that gives a VoiceOfTheLegion effect. Instead of being intimidating, it makes them sound comical, especially when they say certain lines because the filter practically drowns them out.
* During the [[PostScriptSeason epilogue]] of Heavensward, Ishgard is lit on fire due to riots. And yet you see ''none'' of this, while the characters act as if some horrific disaster has befallen the city. In fact life seems to go on as normal for Ishgard.
* Alisaie's redesign in [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/e/e6/FFXIV_ST_Alisaie_%28Trust%29.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/149?cb=20200412022334 Heavensward]] makes her look like she's walking around on a pair of ''ice skates''. There's also a part in Stormblood where she is stabbing some enemies to buy you time... unfortunately due to her height, she's [[GroinAttack stabbing them in the crotch]].
* Any class-specific animation, when performed on a class without an explicitly defined version, will default to the Gladiator/Paladin version. Frankly, the weapon-drawn animations for Disciples of the Hand/Land look silly enough ''before'' you realize this.
* The end of ''Stormblood'''s main story has the death of Zenos and the freedom of Ala Mhigo, symbolized by every Ala Mhigan singing "''The Measure of his Reach''", their nation's anthem prior to Garlean takeover. The problem is that the music ''starts out of nowhere'', and their way of showing the singers completely stonefaced and stoic undermines the moment, as the only characters averting LimitedAnimation are Arenvald and Lyse. Meanwhile every other nation and the Scions just stand there, several of them like Aymeric or Alphinaud being off-center like they ''really'' don't care at that moment.
* The moment in the ''Stormblood'' patches where Asahi reveals his true colors to the Warrior of Light and gets close to their face while revealing his hatred of them. With most races, this looks fine, but if you play a Lalafell, he has to hunch over awkwardly to get close to your face, and it just looks goofy with your allies all looking in opposite directions.
* During the Seat of Sacrifice Trial from ''Shadowbringers'', there is a moment where the Amaurot version of Emet-Selch appears to save the party by summoning them back to the fight. Its a great moment, but the scene becomes unintentionally hilarious when players realized the characters don't actually get placed in the circles that summon them, meaning they all are either only partially in it, or awkwardly to the side of it. It makes the scene funny because it comes across as Emet-Selch going "Eh, good enough", especially compared to the cutscene leading into the fight where the other party members do appear in the circles. To a degree it also is a bit of NarmCharm for that reason because it almost fits his character.
* At the end of the Weapons storyline, Valens is grabbed by the Diamond Weapon (who is actually Alfonse due to Valens having lobotomized him and stuffing his consciousness into the mech's core) and squeezes him until his head pops off screen. What should have been a very dark moment becomes a completely silly one due to the sound effect of the pop being a stock cartoon balloon popping sound effect, followed by the "spilling" of the man's guts whose sound effect sound like someone is pouring a glass of water.
* Near the end of the trailer cinematic for Endwalker, Y'shtola is seen walking away from Fourchenault, a high ranking Sharlayan, who made it clear that Sharalayan was going to remain neutral even as the world falls apart. A pretty cool and dramatic moment, except based on the direction she is walking in and a shot of the room she's in that shows that the room is a spiraling table, logically she is going to [[https://i.redd.it/pg5mwv68wlz61.png walk straight into the table]]. Jokes about her blindness abounded when people realized.
* The animation for the Hum emote looks absolutely adorable when used by a Lalafell. On every other race... it looks ''really'' silly.
