The band's name upon formation was Xero, but it was changed to Hybrid Theory after Bennington joined. Upon signing with Warner Bros. Records in 1999, the label advised them to change their name to avoid confusion with the British electronic group Hybrid. The inspiration for the name they switched to, the one you know today, was Santa Monica's Lincoln Park[[note]]now called Christine Emerson Reed Park[[/note]]; while they originally wanted to use the park's name as was, they tweaked the spelling to secure the domain "linkinpark.com".
