** And Michael Crawford of the original Broadway version has caused quite a number of female heartbeats to start going triple-time.
*** With few exceptions, most of the actors who have performed the role onstage have generated this effect. So have a fair number of the Raouls.

Some speculate that this explains their poor critical reception in the heavily misogynistic American music press. (The British championed them in the early days, before they became hugely popular.)

* Music/AdamAnt. He was once voted the sexiest man in America, and is well aware of this. He keeps wearing dangerously short shorts, and more often that not is, well, shirtless.
