** There was a reason. He and his older brother got into an unfortunate altercation with one of Jagi's men, reaching the point where the goon threatened to cut off the younger brother's leg. Jagi eventually settled the issue...by grabbing the younger brother, bellowing "There's no such thing as a younger brother who's better than his older brother!", and sending him out into the desert to perish. He was really, really big on that whole birth order thing (I didn't say it was a good reason). It's also notable that up until that point, he was pretty much on the level of Zeed, a stupid loudmouth punk who fought dirty and occasionally had to shoot a guy to make a point. Murdering an innocent child was what pushed him over the MoralEventHorizon. With a nuclear-powered bulldozer.
** Let's not forget that he murdered Rei's family, kidnapped Airi on her wedding day, and sold her into sex-slavery with the Fang Clan.

* Let's not overlook some of the others. There's Amiba, a MadScientist with Hokuto Shinken who conducts horrible experiments on peoples' pressure points, often making them explode quite gorily. He doesn't even show remorse when conducting his cruel experiments on children and impersonating a good man like Toki to destroy his name. Why? Because...Toki accidentally slapped him in the face once.

He poisons supplies he knows the rebellion will steal and throws himself huge banquets, eats a small plate, and destroys the rest, all for the sick glee of watching the starving slaves suffer. ** A good example of these kinds of mooks are Raoh's soldiers. Raoh was an unrepentant, power-hungry dictator who imprisoned whoever might oppose him (even if that person was a baby). He commanded men whose true nature was that of "demons that eat people," and he mainly controlled them through fear of his power. After his first battle with Kenshiro, Raoh lay low for a while, his soldiers went out of control, and the people Raoh had been crushing under his boot complained that Raoh never allowed the atrocities his troops were indulging in. And indeed, when Raoh found out what his men were doing in his absence, he was less than pleased with their shit and decided to punish them by trampling them to death under the hooves of Kokuoh-Go. He considered these acts so bad that , he decided to lock up all of his scumbag lieutenants and massacre them all.

* One of the big reasons why the world of FistOfTheNorthStar is such a CrapsackWorld is that the monstrosity isn't limited to the major villains. Every single Mook that serves these villains is utterly selfish and craves power and bullies the weak, treating the innocent good people as playthings to plunder, loot, and murder for sport. The fact that the world was torn asunder by nuclear and only those with power can thrive is just no excuse. It's no wonder the arrival of Kenshiro is often considered as the arrival of a savior, and why it is so satisfying to see him deliver unto these scum what they very much deserve -- which also makes the series quite popular if you get past the gore, because CompleteMonster-dom seems to be made to be punched out like a play-doh by Kenshiro and the other heroes rather than getting away for what they did.

It's no wonder the arrival of Kenshiro is often considered as the arrival of a savior, and why the series are so satisfying, because Kenshiro absolutely has no mercy with these bastards, something the audience agrees for, and always administers a brutal, explosive and well-deserved deaths to these scums.

* God knows how many villains in FistOfTheNorthStar. Arguably the most heartless of them has to be Jagi, who, as his most villainous act, chained a cinderblock to a kid's leg and left him in the middle of the desert. For no reason. Just like Kenshiro said, hell is too good for him.
** There was a reason. He and his older brother got into an unfortunate altercation with one of Jagi's men, reaching the point where the goon threatened to cut off the younger brother's leg. Jagi eventually settled the issue..by grabbing the younger brother, bellowing "There's no such thing as a younger brother who's better than his older brother!", and sending him out into the desert to perish. He was really, really big on that whole birth order thing. (I didn't say it was a good reason.) It's also notable that up until that point, he was pretty much on the level of Zeed, a stupid loudmouth punk who fought dirty and occasionally had to shoot a guy to make a point. Murdering an innocent child was what pushed him over the MoralEventHorizon. With a nuclear-powered bulldozer.

** And also manipulating Kenshiro's best friend Shin into kidnapping Yuria due to his jealousy and unrequited love, which led to the mind-scarring event of Kenshiro seeing Yuria taken away from him, betrayed by his best friend and got his seven scars.

* Emperor Souther is an example of a villain who's FreudianExcuse doesn't even BEGIN to overwrite his atrocities or explain anything. Souther runs a brutal empire that enslaves thousands of innocent children and works them to death. He poisons supplies he knows the rebellion will steal and throws himself huge banquets, eats a small plate and destroys the rest, all for the sick glee of watching the starving slaves suffer. His old friend Shu, the rebellion's leader? Souther forces him, with cut tendons, to make his way up an enormous pyramid holding the enormous stone cap piece meant to finish it...if he drops it, every single slave will die. If anyone helps Shu, Souther tells them their families will be executed. And then, once Shu finally does make it to the top of that pyramid? The bastard puts a fucking arrow into him. To say that Kenshiro was madder than hell at this is quite the understatement.
** The FreudianExcuse in question? Because he is forced to kill his beloved master to master the Nanto Ho'ou Ken, the amount of grief he experienced was too much that he swore off to never love and became as much as a bastard as he can. Gee, you'd think he'd try to man up rather than just running off from challenges of the griefs coming with love like that.
* One of the big reasons why the world of FistOfTheNorthStar is such a CrapsackWorld is that the monstrosity isn't limited to the major villains. Every single Mook that serves these villains is utterly selfish and craves in power and bullying the weak, treating the innocent good people as playthings to plunder, loot and murder for sport. It's no wonder the arrival of Kenshiro is often considered as an arrival of a savior.

* Let's not overlook some of the others. There's Amiba, a MadScientist with Hokuto Shinken who conducts horrible experiments on peoples' pressure points, often making them explode quite gorily. He doesn't even show remorse when testing on children and impersonate a good man like Toki to destroy his name. Why? Because...Toki accidentally slapped him in the face once.
