* ArtifactTitle: ''Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou'' translates to "Record of a Yokohama Shopping Trip". The first chapter is about just that - a shopping trip to Yokohama - but the place is only visited occasionally through the rest of the series. Like as not, the "first chapter" was actually produced as a one-shot stand-alone which was then optioned into a series, carrying along its now mostly vestigial title.

Written by Hitoshi Ashinano, ''YokohamaKaidashiKikou'' (''Record of a Yokohama Shopping Trip'') is a slow, quiet vision of the peaceful decline of humanity. Perhaps very little happens, but then it's not about things happening. YKK is a manga series that gives you something to think about, and time in which to do it. After all, there's all the time in the world.

A bit of advice: If you try to speed read through the manga, you'll probably find it very boring and pointless. The story is told through the visuals, not the words. This also means that the untranslated work is still enjoyable for non-Japanese speakers, which is a boon since it [[NoExportForYou hasn't been officially released in the West]] (though an unofficial {{scanlation}} is floating around on the Internet). Sit back and stare at the artwork. Philosophy and SceneryPorn at its finest.

* [[HoYay Les Yay]]: Alpha and Kokone; Those all-female androids? They transfer data to each other ''by pressing their data ports are ''on their tongues''. It's taken further tongues together''. Believe it or not, though, this actually [[ItMakesSenseInContext makes a fair bit of sense in context]].
** Carried to an extreme by the relationship
between Kokone Maruko and Maruko.
Kokone, though; see GreenEyedMonster above.
* IHaveTheHighGround: As seen above.
* ImprobablyFemaleCast: as far as robots are concerned, anyway. All of them are female, and they're all ''cute''.
in the picture above.

* MayflyDecemberRomance: Subverted; Alpha and Takahiro have an obvious romantic connection, but neither of them pursue their mutual feelings because Takahiro will eventually age and die and Alpha will not. Alpha also sees Takahiro as a brother figure, and refers to him as such several times. Of course, this doesn't stop some [[{{Hentai}} H-artists]], though....

* NoExportForYou: Apparently. Dammit.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Although never explicitly stated, in the beginning of the series Alpha may be quite a bit younger than her adult-looking form suggests.
* {{OVA}}: Adapted not as a television series but as two two-episode video releases.

suggests. [[spoiler:Played straight by the end of the series.]]
* OneGenderRace: {{Subverted}} - there ''were'' male androids, but almost all of them died out due to an unidentified design flaw. Throughout the series, we only ever even hear of one survivor.
* {{OVA}}: Adapted not as a television series but as two a pair of two-episode video releases.

* RealPlaceBackground: A lot of places Alpha visits exist for real, even though they are now largely reclaimed by the sea or highly run-down. Special mention goes to Yokohama (of course), Miura and Kamakura.
* RidiculouslyHumanRobots: Alpha and her kind are basically human, except for the fact that they never age -- and probably can't reproduce either.
** They seem to have the necessary equipment, though. It would seem that the only reason they can't reproduce is because there's only ''one'' male robot left and he just isn't interested. It's one of the many EpilepticTrees in the manga.

* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship - Seriously, this is all the relationship between Alpha and Kokone amounts to; [[{{YuriFanboy}} get your minds out of the gutter!]]
** Well, technically they aren't even girls anyway, since they are not human, even though they are anatomically correct. Why robots would have romantic feelings is never explained in the first place.
*** Why would robots eat and taste food? Seems easiest to assume the robots were designed as near-replacement humans.
**** There actually is a good reason to make them eat food. When the A7 model (to which all Robots shown in the series belong) was created, humanity was already declining, natural energy sources like sunlight or food were the best choise as main energy supply, as they would stay available for far longer than processed fuels like gasoline or electric energy.
** In the anime, it is strongly hinted that Kokone is physically attracted to Alpha: for example, in the scene where [[spoiler:Alpha is asleep and Kokone touches her breast.]]
* SceneryPorn: The whole series lives and breathes this trope. Several entire chapters are devoted to Alpha enjoying this.
* SchizoTech: On the one hand you've got a giant orbital whatsit and RidiculouslyHumanRobots and direct-to-brain cameras, and on the other you have standard 20th-century fare.
