* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Since Kohaku is an angel with a very strong bond with every living thing, just drinks milk and eats honey.

* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Kohaku again. His role in Heaven ''requires'' this - he sings to the Tree of Life so that new angels may be born from it, and he's the only one able to do this.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Koryu develops into this. He loves to taunt and bully Kohaku and make him cry, but he's absolutely livid with rage when he learns of Kohaku's punishment for defying God.

* MismatchedEyes: Kokuyou as he give his right eye (along with half of his powers) to Hisui as tradition and kinda like a wedding ring.

* RedStringOfFate: This motif first showed when Hotaru rejects Shuichiro declaring she's not the person attached to the other side of his string. Later appears again [[spoiler:when Shuichiro confess his love for Kohaku, declaring her the person attached to his string]].

* RedHerring: [[spoiler: We find out lots of interesting things about Shuichiro's past; he has no parents, the woman who acted as his mother was a wisteria fairy and his grandfather eventually reveals he "just showed up one day, out of the blue" as a baby. Then there's the fact he looks a LOT like Kokuyo, as everyone's quick to point out when the two first meet. So what's the big secret about Shuichiro, and why's it so important that GOD prevents Kokuyo from telling anyone? It turns out that...Shuichiro is a normal human and is destined to an early death. That's it.]]

* TheirFirstTime: Kokuyo and Hisui had sex at the TruceZone; which make them unable to return to Heaven and Hell.

* GodIsEvil: Subverted: [[spoiler:God's punishment on Kohaku for leaving heaven is seen as amazingly harsh by all of the characters, until it is later revealed that this is to ensure his meeting with Shuichiro's reincarnation 100 years afterward.]] So...GodIsGood, only ''very'' [[InMysteriousWays mysterious]]. Which is actually surprising for {{manga}}.

* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Kokuyo is the Prince of Hell, but he's not exactly a horrible villain. Koryuu is as much a JerkAss, but he gets CharacterDevelopment later.

* Unishment: [[spoiler: Hisui is stripped of her title as an Angel Master and banished to Earth. Since she and Kokuyo had eloped to Earth anyway, she's quite okay with this.]]
* YamatoNadeshiko: Hisui, arguably.

* FoeYay: Koryuu's motive for bullying Kohaku. Ruri and Hari even point this out, much to Koryuu's annoyance.

* CatsAreMean: Played with in the case of Ruri and Hari; while they're Koryu's lackeys, they're technically CatGirls and not all that mean.

* CatsAreMean: Played with; they are actually demons in animal rather than human form, and for some reason, they actually really like Kudo.

* CelestialDeadline: Angels-in-training, like Kohaku, can assume an adult form during the day, but must be in a chibi form at night, while demons-in-training, like Koryu, can only assume their adult form during the night. If they fully master all magic, they can keep their adult forms all the time.

* MeaningfulName: Most characters' names mean various gemstones (Kohaku = amber, Hisui = jade, and so on.)

* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Kokuyo is the Prince of Hell, but he's not exactly an horrible villain. Koryuu is as much a JerkAss, but he gets CharacterDevelopment later.

* ReincarnationRomance. God tries to avoid it by forbidding angels to fall for humans. [[spoiler: When it happens anyway, he makes Kohaku sleep while bound to a tree so he can meet up with Kudo's reincarnation.]]

* SuperDeformed: Trainee angels are full-size during the day and chibi during the night, while the same is true vice versa for trainee demons.
