''When Will Ayumu Make His Move?'' is a 2019 manga by Soichiro Yamamoto, creator of ''Manga/TeasingMasterTakagiSan''. It follows the adventures of Tanaka Ayumu, a kendo-club star who gave up his sword to join the ''TabletopGame/{{Shogi}}'' club...but not because he's a rabid fan of chess's Japanese cousin. Instead, he joins because he wants to woo one Yaotome Urushi, the president of the shogi club.

* WillTheyOrWontThey: This dynamic is pretty much the foundation of the manga, at least in the early going. Both leads have a serious mutual crush on each other, and notably, ''neither'' is completely oblivious to the fact. However, Ayumu will not come out and admit his intent to ask her out until he beats her in a game of ''shogi'', a game in which she's very proficient and he's green as grass.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: While Ayumu's hair is a completely realistic black, Urushi's hair is a washed-out periwinkle color.

* ClubStub: Downplayed; Urushi claims to be the president of the ''shogi'' club, but the club doesn't actually exist as far as the school is concerned. Urushi and Ayumu are the only members, and the school requires at least four members before it will officially recognize them as a club. [[spoiler:This changer in chapter 72 when Rin joins the club.]]

* ClubStub: Downplayed; Urushi claims to be the president of the ''shogi'' club, but the club doesn't actually exist as far as the school is concerned. Urushi and Ayumu are the only members, and the school requires at least four members before it will officially recognize them as a club.

* VisualPun: In one chapter where Ayumu accuses Urushi of not looking up to her while he claims that he does, during the scene she's standing while he's sitting. In other words, he's literally looking up to her in that moment.

* LovableJock: Despite being very athletic and a star of the kendo team, Ayumu is hardly a JerkJock or even HotBlooded -- despite being somewhat aloof and awkward, he's unfailingly polite and respectful of others.

* NoSocialSkills: It's fairly obvious (and acknowledged in-universe) that Ayumu isn't the most socially adept person, though it's downplayed in he's not portrayed or seen as an idiot or a creep. He's merely awkward and somewhat odd.

* EarnYourHappyEnding: Invoked and played with. Straying from the cliched route of Urushi declaring that Ayumu ''can't'' ask her out until he beats her at shogi, Ayumu's quest to beat Urushi is a completely SelfImposedChallenge[[invoked]]...much to her chagrin.
