A MagicalGirlWarrior manga and anime mixed-media project, centered around a wedding [[{{Motifs}} motif]] and overseen in both entities by Sukehiro Tomita (known for being a major writer on the ''Anime/SailorMoon'' series). The manga, created by Nao Yazawa, ran for 6 volumes; the anime by {{Creator/KSS}} and Creator/OLMIncorporated ran for 51 episodes. The series, particularly the anime, is often compared to ''Sailor Moon'' moreso than other MagicalGirl series, partially due to their shared writer and character designer.

Middle school girl Momoko Hanasaki dreams of getting married in a beautiful wedding dress someday, but in the meantime has to deal with being clumsy, getting bad grades, her job at the school paper, and supporting her photographer father. Her two best friends, Yuri and Hinagiku, also work on the school paper, and are rivals with her for the affections of the oblivious captain of the soccer team, Yanagiba.

One day, Momoko is awakened as the "Love Angel" Wedding Peach, a warrior in the ancient battle against devils who serve their queen, [[BigBad Rain Devila]], who hopes to rid the world of love and spread hatred among humanity. Accompanied by Yuri and Hinagiku as fellow Love Angels Lily and Daisy and occasionally aided by high-ranking angel Sir Limone, she wields ThePowerOfLove granted to her by the goddess Aphrodite to ensure the happiness of love in the world by finding the mythical [[OldNewBorrowedAndBlue Saint Something Four]] - while working out her own [[BelligerentSexualTension complicated relationship]] with soccer team member Yosuke Fuuma and protecting a [[MementoMacGuffin ring left behind by her late mother]] that the devils seem to have an interest in. And although the fight initially centers around [[MonsterOfTheWeek solving love-related problems around town]] caused by devils, the ongoing war between the Angel and Devil Worlds turns out to have a lot more to do with her than she thinks...

The anime was Creator/OLMIncorporated's first work (by its Team OTA, which would go on to be the main core behind the original ''{{Anime/Pokemon}}'' anime). It also inspired many aspects of modern magical girl anime such as ''Anime/PrettyCure'', and OLM's resulting popularity in the industry led it to create the ''Pokémon'' anime.

The series never aired on a children's network in the US, but it's not a victim of NoExportForYou; the manga was licensed in full by Creator/VIZMedia (though it's now currently [[KeepCirculatingTheTapes out of print]]) while the anime was licensed and dubbed by Creator/ADVFilms.

* IAmYourOpponent: Between Limone and Pluie. Limone always steps in to fight Pluie when the latter tries to intervene directly.

* MementoMacguffin: Peach's ring came from her mother and [[spoiler: she discovers it's part of the Saint Something Four]]. Later she finds [[spoiler: her mother isn't dead]].
** Yousuke has in his possession something left behind by his father; in the anime, it's a bell left behind as a "good luck charm" [[spoiler:that ends up having a recorded message telling him that he needs to take down Rain Devila]], while in the manga it's a bracelet [[spoiler:that ends up being the key to unlock his devil nature]].

* MentorMascot: Although he's still quite immature and not necessarily much of a mentor, in the anime, Jama-P ends up providing quite a bit of useful info on the MonsterOfTheWeek.
* MercyKill: Potamos considers killing a power-drained [[spoiler: Ignis]] to be this.

* MiniDressOfPower: A magic phrase turns their wedding dresses into short, armored dresses. Uniquely the new versions are still supposed to be wedding dresses.
* MinionShipping:
** Pluie/Aquelda. Like you didn't see it.
** Potamos fangirling over Ignis [[spoiler: before she kills him.]]
* MissingMom: Momoko's late mother, Sakura. [[spoiler:She's actually Aphrodite's sister, and isn't dead; she left the family to return to her duties as an angel and ends up in dormancy after overusing her powers. In the anime, she wakes up halfway through the series only to be sent back after saving Momoko from Viento; in both versions, she eventually returns to the family, and in the OVA starts off as the only person around to remember the girls' true identities.]]

* MysteriousProtector: Limone shows up to help the love angels fight Pluie and for many episodes they know nothing about him because he disappears afterwards. That said, he's mainly just a high-ranker under Aphrodite. [[spoiler:He ''is'', however, masquerading as Yanagiba to keep an eye on them and scout for the Something Four when off-duty, unconsciously (in the anime) or consciously (in the manga), and it seems he had a past fling with Lily.]]
* NoGuyWantsAnAmazon: A few characters comment that the very tomboyish Hinagiku might have trouble getting a boyfriend because of her personality. In the manga, she herself doesn't show any particular signs of believing this (although she does briefly agonize about the fact she doesn't have a boyfriend [[spoiler:prior to her reincarnation]]), but an anime episode does have her mildly concerned about it. [[spoiler:The guy who ultimately does become her boyfriend doesn't seem to mind.]]

* PlayingHardToGet: In the anime, Hinagiku forcely denies affection for [[spoiler: Takuro]] and walks off. In the next scene she says, "You should have come after me! [[spoiler: Takuro]], you are so slow at picking up on things!"
* PlayingWithFire: Ignis has fire power.

* PowerGivesYouWings: The girls' new costumes in the OVA have shoulder feathers that grow into full wings.
* PowerMakeover: After the Pluie arc in the manga, the girls' Fighter Angel outfits change to reflect what Limone refers to them as "Super Love Angels" ([[spoiler:it's also later shown to be the outfits they wore before reincarnating]]). The actual reason for this, however, is that the anime had finally been approved and the manga's designs were changed to match it. As a result, it's an odd take on the FrillyUpgrade, as the designs are more detailed but with less emphasis on frilly fabric and more of a "warrior" theme.

* ProperLady: Yuri is very polite (she speaks in {{Keigo}}), is a quarter French, and is the most focused of the trio.
* RaceForYourLove: In the manga, [[spoiler:Scarlett pursues an embittered and rejected Dean upon finding out he's returning to America and yes, she does indeed love him. She's stopped behind security. Eventually the power of the Saint Something Four teleports her in so she can confess and say her last goodbyes. A variation in that Dean ''does'' leave for America, but as a result of the confession they start a relationship and eventually marry.]]

* RebelRelaxation: Salvia often sports this posture because she's the only anti-hero among the four.
* RedHeadedHero: Salvia's hair is scarlet and she is the fourth love angel.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: In the manga, both [[spoiler:Ignis]] and [[spoiler:Potamos]] reform just before their deaths.
* RedStringOfFate: Played with. In the anime, Momoko knits a muffler as a present to Yanagiba and {{Imagine Spot}}s them wearing it together. In the next frame a thread leads offscreen, and reveals that Yosuke somehow invaded the ImagineSpot and is also wearing it, [[BelligerentSexualTension much to her displeasure]]. [[spoiler:Ironically, later in the series, a muffler that Momoko makes for Yosuke - this time with more legitimate intentions - becomes a plot point.]]

[[spoiler:Ironically, later in the series, a muffler that Momoko makes for Yosuke - this time with more legitimate intentions - becomes a plot point.]]

* SoLastSeason: The Wave of Love is powerful enough to deflect Pluie's Demon Breeze and seriously wound him, but to Ignis, Potamos, and Rain Devila it's a minor annoyance. Potamos also easily shrugs off Peach's Sacred Crystal Love For You and Daisy's Sacred Tornado Dreams.

* SpoilerOpening: The second opening of the anime technically spoils one of the plot character revelations not because of the animation but because of the song. At one point the singer sings [[spoiler:"angel" on Momoko's face and then "devil" on Yousuke's, promptly followed by him being kidnapped by Rain Devila thereby giving away his identity when few clues about had been given beforehand]].
** Said opening also presents the endgame couples right to your face ([[spoiler:Momoko and Yousuke, Yuri and Yanagiba, and Hinagiku and Takuro]]). The case of the first had been blatantly obvious since the first season, but it's technically a spoiler for the second and third because [[spoiler:this is before the revelation of Yanagiba's identity and Limone's past with Lily, since up until that point Yanagiba had just been a very distant senior, and at the point in the story where the opening debuts Takuro hadn't had much interaction with Hinagiku as he'd mostly been crushing on Momoko (you might be able to have picked up the signs for Hinagiku if you were sufficiently GenreSavvy ''only'' if you were simultaneously following the manga)]].

* WorfBarrage: Sacred Crystal Love For You works a grand total of ''once'' when it drains Ignis's powers. Any time it's used after that, Potamos either evades it or shields herself from it with water.

* FiveManBand: In the {{Toku}} pastiche episode, Potamos becomes the fifth angel.

* IdentityAmnesia: In the anime; [[spoiler:Yanagiba results from Limone purposely suppressing his memories and presence to hide from the devils, although he gives it up after his identity is revealed. Later occurs against his will when Aphrodite saves his life at the cost of his memories of his identity or of Yuri before they're returned to him later.]] But definitely not in the manga, where [[spoiler:throughout the entire series he's very aware of his duties, and ''very'' aware that his reincarnated lover has no idea who he is.]]

* InTheNameOfTheMoon:
** The anime has "...for that, I cannot forgive you! I am the Love Angel! I am Wedding Peach, and I am extremely angry with you!", along with similar calls forthe other girls.
** The manga has "The Love Angel Wedding Peach is extremely displeased!"
* ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies: After a fashion, Momoko ends up attempting this with Yousuke as she increasingly tries to keep him uninvolved. [[spoiler:Happened in Sakura's backstory as well, as she left the family to prevent them from getting involved in the angel-devil war.]]
** [[spoiler:Hinagiku does this to Takuro]] in the manga, although she eventually decides to confess her feelings anyway while keeping him uninvolved.
* IWillWaitForYou: In the manga, [[spoiler:Limone]] had to endure seeing his lover die and wait hundreds of years for her to reincarnate, living her life for a while without memories of their past lives [[spoiler:until a critical moment in the plot]]. After a point when he catches up with her when she'd left him to recover in bed, his comment is that she'd "left [him] behind" again.
* JapanesePronouns: Hinagiku notably uses "ore," even in her frilly-dressed Angel Daisy form.
* KickTheDog: Salvia kills Potamos's familiar Pumpie even though he was pretty harmless.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: The girls can fight in the wedding dresses as well as their mini dresses.
* KillTheOnesYouLove: [[spoiler: Scarlett has to do this to her love interest in the OVA after he becomes monster-ified and asks her to MercyKill him.]]
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: How the girls act around Yanagiba.
* KnightTemplar: Salvia. "My personal crusade is to eradicate all devils in existence." She thinks reforming devils is stupid and kills even the harmless ones.

* LethalChef: In the anime, Potamos cannot cook.
* LoveTriangle: Potamos ends up falling in love with Yousuke. In the anime this is mostly played for comedy as she had just gotten over her heartbreak from Ignis and Yousuke takes absolutely no notice; [[spoiler:she eventually falls for a ReplacementLoveInterest who looks suspiciously like Ignis]]. In the manga, however, it's much more dramatic as [[spoiler:she's also interested in Yousuke as Viento, and goes to lengths to keep him with her; ultimately she dies in a HeroicSacrifice to save him, causing Peach to realize that her feelings for him truly were genuine]].
** In the anime, Takuro has a crush on Momoko. Not so much in the manga, where a few compromising situations with her and a few misunderstandings end up sparking jealousy on the behalf of Yousuke, but the only reason Takuro approaches her in the first place is to [[spoiler:lure her into a trap]].
* MadLibsCatchPhrase: Whatever it is Wedding Peach cannot forgive.
* MadLove: Potamos's infatuation with Ignis, and later Viento.
* MagicalGirl: In this series they are called "Love Angels" but they have the frilly superpower costumes and such.
* MagicalGirlWarrior: All the girls have special weapons and the second TransformationSequence is to make a costume better suited for fighting but Salvia stands out. She uses her Saint Pure Sword ''as'' as a sword instead of a beam weapon.
* MakingASplash: Potamos's powers are water-based. She can also control [[AnIcePerson ice]].
* MamaBear: In the anime, when Viento attacks Wedding Peach, [[spoiler: ActionMom Celestia one shots him.]]
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Despite her mother's complaints that she won't be able to get a boyfriend if she doesn't become more feminine, [[spoiler:Hinagiku and Takuro end up perfectly fine with each other as they are]].

* EightiesHair: Limone and Plue could front for just about any Hair Metal band; same with Momoko.

* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: DownplayedTrope in that, while Momoko is technically a princess [[spoiler: her mother is the Queen's younger sister, Sakura, meaning that she was a princess, and by extension, Momoko is one too]], it is never brought up.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: From Hinagiku and Yuri, to Yanagiba, to a random ''alley cat'' passing by, everyone ships Momoko and Yousuke.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: Averted in that [[spoiler:at first Yousuke transforms into Viento and because of his devil gene does serve the villains but later does a HeelFaceTurn and keeps the costume]].

* EvilPlan: Raindevila's plan appears to be kill people and ruin relationships because she's AllergicToLove. In the anime, [[spoiler: it's revealed that she's a BrokenBird (her first crush had an angel girlfriend) and believes she's acting out of self-defense.]] The manga has no explanation for her evil.

* AbsoluteCleavage: Rain Devila at the end of the anime.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: Momoko's father Shouichirou is a much younger-looking man than he is in the manga.

* BlowYouAway: Pluie, Tornade, Uragano, and Viento can do this. Daisy's Daisy Blizzard counts as this too.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:In the anime, Yousuke has this happen to him when his half-devil gene starts to manifest and turn him into Viento. Since Rain Devila is the queen and his devil gene has awakened he's only following Rain Devila's twisted orders as a result of his devil gene, which persists as long as the gene gives him IdentityAmnesia. This doesn't happen in the manga, where it's more along the lines of a SuperPoweredEvilSide.]]
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: [[spoiler:Yousuke]] attempts this after [[spoiler:his nature as a devil becomes known to him]]. Done differently in the anime than the manga; in the former, [[spoiler:he tries to break up with Momoko knowing that he's a liability to her]], but she manages to snap him out of it by retorting that if their positions were swapped, he wouldn't accept her breaking up with him. In the latter, [[spoiler:he pretends to turn on her, attempts to make a deal with Potamos to leave her alone, and tries to get an audience with Rain Devila so he can make an assassination attempt]], but she sees right through it and intervenes when things don't go as he planned.

* ButNotTooForeign: Scarlett Ohara is half Japanese, and Yuri is a quarter French. In the manga, the latter's grandmother and her marriage to a Japanese man serves as the background as to [[spoiler:how the "something blue" of the Saints Something Four came to be]].
* ByThePowerOfGreyskull (twice for each angel) with separate incantations.
* CallingYourAttacks: The techniques such as 'Bridal flash' which is a flash of the PowerOfLove.

* CareBearStare: Used to defeat villains by filling them with love, and turning them good.
* CargoShip: Invoked; when early in the anime a girl tries to confess to Yousuke (which [[{{Tsundere}} sparks Momoko's jealousy for reasons she doesn't understand]]), Yousuke's response is that "[his] girlfriend is soccer". [[spoiler:He does, however, eventually enter a committed relationship with Momoko after all.]]

* CatsAreMean: Jama-P has catlike features, and is evil at first.
* {{Cephalothorax}}: Jama-P, and others of his kind.

* ClarkKenting:
** Despite the fact that the girls look barely any different from their angel forms, the story treats them as if they should be unrecognizable (something even Yazawa herself found a little silly when presented with the scenario). After the Pluie arc in the manga, their angel outfits change to match those from the anime, which results in slight hairstyle differences between their civilian and angel forms, but not by much.
** Potamos does this by disguising herself as NewTransferStudent Hiromi Kawanami, despite the fact she even has the same CatchPhrase.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: In the manga, Potamos befriends the Love Angels in their civilian identities, steals Momoko's transforming compact, and immediately tries to kill them. This is especially notable as this was ''after'' they'd found all of the Sacred Four Somethings, but as Potamos points out, they'd be no threat if they couldn't transform. She's fairly genre-savvy as a whole, often catching the Love Angels off-guard and attempting to drown or freeze them so they can't fight back.
* DarkMagicalGirl: Potamus makes a nice contrast to the Heroine Momoko. She's a devil {{Yandere}} and her rival in love. In one scene she transforms between human and devil forms by shouting her true name, similar to Momoko. [[spoiler: Then she has a HeelFaceTurn.]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: Takuro wants to protect Hinagiku, but he's a wimpy {{Muggle}} while she's an athletic MagicalGirl. [[spoiler:He eventually proves himself to her in other ways, but ultimately the only thing that matters to her is his kind heart.]]
* DisappearedDad: Yosuke's father is missing; in the manga, he'd abandoned the family, whereas in the anime he'd left on a sailing journey and never returned. [[spoiler:Either way, it was because he was to return to his duties as a devil, although his ultimate fate depends on the version.]]
* DispelMagic: Peach has the ability to negate devil powers with "Lovely Operation Tempete".
* DisproportionateRetribution: On a cosmic scale. In the anime, Rain Devila took over the Demon Realm and waged nonstop war against the Angels because [[spoiler:the man she loved married someone else]]. That said, there's also the part where [[spoiler:she also mistakenly attributes the magical tree tying her down to them, not realizing that it's being [[SelfInflictedHell caused by her own hatred]]]].
* DramaticIrony: In the manga, [[spoiler:previous-life Daisy]] agonizes that she wants a boyfriend, and Salvia scolds her by saying that she'll never get one even in a hundred years because of her personality. [[spoiler:Of course, the audience is well aware by this point that after she's reincarnated 100 years later as Hinagiku, Takuro, who's into her regardless of (or perhaps because of) her masculinity, will end up confessing to her, and the two will eventually enter a relationship.]]
* DrowningPit: Potamos forms a barrier of water around the Love Angels in volume 5. They nearly drown before [[spoiler:Yosuke]] saves them.
* DualWielding: Salvia uses a sword in each hand.

They nearly drown before [[spoiler:Yosuke]] [[spoiler:Yousuke]] saves them.
* DualWielding: Salvia uses a sword in each hand.
them.

* {{Reincarnation}}: A late-series reveal that [[spoiler:Angels Lily and Daisy were originally warriors under Momoko's mother]]. In the manga, [[spoiler:Salvia is as well, which is particularly painful for her because she recovered her PastLifeMemories - particularly of watching her comrades die in front of her - as a ''child'']].
* ReincarnationRomance:
** Between [[spoiler: Lily and Limone]]. In the anime, it was a one-off encounter hinted to possibly be LoveAtFirstSight and they don't discover their feelings for each other for real until [[spoiler:Lily]] reincarnates. In the manga, they were already in a relationship, and it's made more painful for [[spoiler:Limone]] because he ''didn't'' die and so he had to wait a few hundred years for his love to be reborn.
** In the anime, [[spoiler: Potamos and Ignis]] fit. The former is reborn as a human and glomps a boy that looks a lot like [[spoiler:Ignis]] and is willing to have tea with the cute girl he just met.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Salvia is out to kill ''all'' devils, with no exceptions. In both versions, it's because of the loss of someone important to her; in the anime it's a character seen only in backstory named Freezia, while in the manga it's [[spoiler:Momoko's mother, along with Lily and Daisy]].
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: Notable in that the trope is actually ''averted''. The relationship between the girls is handled in quite a platonic manner, and there are few (if any) moments that can really be construed as being or even remotely looking romantic (especially compared to other MagicalGirl anime), possibly because of how clearly it's spelled out that they're interested in and currently pursuing guys.

* RoseHairedSweetie: Momoko who is kind and sweet and girlish.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: You only really learn anything interesting about [[spoiler:Limone or Yanagiba]] after he starts his relationship with [[spoiler:Yuri]], and most of his significant actions or displays of individual personality thereafter have to do with said relationship.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Takuro and Hinagiku. The former is a straight A student but physically inept and the later is the star of the Judo Club. It's especially visible when she literally dragged him on a triple date to help Yuri.
* SecretKeeper: Initially it's just [[spoiler:Takuro]], whose run-ins with the devils means that he ultimately knows the girls' secrets but remains a supportive force nevertheless. [[spoiler:Eventually, after multiple attempts to keep him in the dark via memory wipe, Yousuke finds out for real.]] In the anime, [[spoiler:Momoko's father]] as well.
* {{Sentai}}: The love angels are a task force commanded by TheLeader of the angel world to defend mortals from demons. They have uniforms and poses and everything.
* SeriesMascot / TeamPet: Jama-P is a reformed devil that works with the love angels. He looks like a plushie crossed with a cat, especially in the manga.

* ShipperOnDeck: Exploited as the girls are happy to ship each other with someone other than Yanagiba so they themselves will have less competition. After one of them wins, it's played straight as they remain supportive of each other.
** Beyond their obvious attempts to pair them off to remove Momoko as competition, Yuri and Hinagiku (particularly in the manga) can see Momoko and Yosuke's budding relationship [[EveryoneCanSeeIt from a mile away]] and attempt to encourage it throughout the series.
* SignificantDoubleCasting: Perceptive viewers may notice even before it's formally revealed in the anime that [[spoiler:Yanagiba and Limone have the same voice actor]].
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: In the manga, although most of it was due to his general inferiority complex, the final nail that causes Takuro to accept his DealWithTheDevil is seeing Hinagiku openly reject him for someone more "sporty" like Yanagiba, and the resulting effects on his personality cause him to become more arrogant - but it's made clear that [[spoiler:ultimately what she likes about him is the kind heart he's had since he was a child]].

* ShoutOut: In the third OVA episode the character of Golden Mask could very well be in refernce to Tuxedo Mask from ''Franchise/SailorMoon''. This could be all the more probable considering Sailor Moon's seiyuu, Creator/KotonoMitsuishi, was in the episode playing Potamos.

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Other than the usual o/ou Japanese romanization issues, there's never consensus on how to spell "Rain Devila", as "Rain" might be "Reine" (as in the French word for "queen"), which is used on Yazawa's site, but "Rain Devila" is the romanization used in the official subtitles. A similar issue occurs with Scarlet or Scarlett, as the former is used officially but the latter preserves the ''GoneWithTheWind'' reference (Yazawa's site also romanizes Dean Butler's name as "Dean Battler").
