''The Sword of Paros'' (パロスの剣 ''Parosu no Ken'') is a shoujo historical fantasy manga written by Kaoru Kurimoto, a science fiction author best known for the ''[[LightNovel/GuinSaga Guin Saga]]'', and illustrated by Yumiko Igarashi, best known for ''Manga/CandyCandy''. The manga ran in ''Monthly Asuka'' from 1986 to 1987, and was compiled into three volumes.

* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: The manga introduction gives the impression that Herminia is the ChosenOne who will eventually save Paros from the other kingdons. She comes with the tournament to proof her value as a warrior and be allowed to rule with Fiona by her side [[spoiler: but, instead, she is defeated, sees Yura being blindened, her father murdered and is almost raped by Faon. After Hermina is saved by Fiona, she learns that the rebels want her to lead them in the revolution; she even considers that, until Yurias tells her that Fiona has disguised herself as her to allow Hermina to escape, but it is obvious that she will be killed when Faon discovers the ruse. Hermina then realizes she never was allowed to choose her fate because of her royal blood and that "damned legend"; even if the commoners of Paros want her as their leader she would be still fitting in a role the others expected. Instead, she prioritizes her own happiness by running to save Fiona or die; by using the sword of Paros for that, she shows that SHE IS unfitting to rule, thus leading to the end of the fourth dynasty.]]

* ILoveYouBecauseICantControlYou: Apparently, the source of Faon's VillainousCrush on Hermina. He laughs sadistically as he defeats Hermina and when he sees her crying because of her father and Yurias, but[[spoiler: seems genuinously hurt when he realizes she prefers to die than having him push himself on her. He tells his subordinates to not allow Hermina to kill herself.]]

* StayInTheKitchen: Except Fiona, everybody else insist that Erminia should behave as a ProperLady. [[AbusiveParents Her father]] [[WhyCouldntYouBeDifferent goes so far as to have her locked in her room]] with a bunch of maids trying to talk her into how wonderful is to wear beautiful dresses, jewels and chose a handsome husband (yuck). Poor Ermina is having a nervous breakdown, when Yuras enters and sends the clucking hens away. [[spoiler: It is a lot worse with Faon. He belittles Hermina's habilities with a sword, insisting that "a woman's place" is in the arms of a man, [[BatheHerAndBringHerToMe has her dressed with feminine clothes after having knocked her out]]and goes as far as trying to rape her to "erase her male heart".]]

* AttemptedRape:[[spoiler: Faon strips Hermina naked and tries to rape her even before the marriage. She bits his tongue when he kisses her forcefully; shocked at the realization of her repulse for him, he gives up, but believes she will eventually have a change of heart.]]

* AgainstTheGrain: Both Ermina and Fiona are opressed because they won't fit in the local society. Ermina likes dressing like a man, fencing and riding horses, instead of being "feminine" (for a noblewoman, that means obsessing over her appearance and talking about trivialities like hunks and sweets). Fiona, in turn, is ridiculed and mistreated by her class colleagues for daring to dream about a prince charming, although she is a poor orphan with no future.
