* IThoughtThatWas: Anzu gets two tickets for her and Shingo to watch ''Film/TheGrapesOfWrath'' which is a very subdued film about farming conditions during the Great Depression, but the title causes the two to mistake it for something akin to ''Film/AttackOfTheKillerTomatoes'' ...Or at least Shingo did, Anzu knew exactly what the movie was and used it to bore Shingo asleep to mess with his sense of time so he'd be late for his curfew.

* JerkassHasAPoint: Hana's decision to try and dissuade Chiyo from accepting Kiyoshi's love confession is one made purely out of spite and jealousy, but it doesn't change the fact that everything she accuses Kiyoshi of is true: He is a manipulative liar; he is a closet pervert; and he has participated in several perverted and degrading acts with Hana behind Chiyo's back. Kiyoshi is only willing to admit to all of this after Hana forces him to, [[spoiler: and was in fact already lying about wearing Hana's panties.]] [[spoiler: The last point is finally enough to convince Chiyo to reject Kiyoshi.]]

* RelationshipSabotage: After the sports festival, Chiyo asks Hana to give Kiyoshi a note for her. She rips it up and shoves it in Kiyoshi's face, and in the aftermath Kiyoshi misreads the letter scraps as a declaration of hate. Additionally, during the confession event itself, Hana also intervened to gave Chiyo a disparaging account of Kiyoshi in the hope that Chiyo will reject his love confession.

** 4th story arc: As rushed as the ending was, it puts a definite end to [[WebcomicTime 3 months' worth of attempts]] made by Kiyoshi to date Chiyo, which has been serving as his background motivation throughout all the story arcs. Doubles as a FullyAbsorbedFinale from the 3rd story arc.

* FullyAbsorbedFinale: The 3rd story arc features the [[spoiler: destruction of the prison, which clearly meant that "Prison School" as a title no longer holds meaning, but many of the characters still had their own personal arcs which is meant to be resolved in this final arc]].

** Happened to Kiyoshi again during the Love Confession story arc.

** Hana tried to force Kiyoshi to pee in front of her only to get his urine ending up in her mouth... No, it was actually Meiko drinking water from a tap. Hana was still drenched wet from Kiyoshi's urine though.
** Gakuto's atonement for humiliating Mari appeared to be AssShove, courtesy of Meiko. It was revealed that the "dildo" was actually a shaver meant to make him bald.
** When Gakuto finds himself in a box with a very forward senpai in Chapter 247, it appears that she had him finger her. 248 reveals that his hand was actually under her armpit.
** When Kiyoshi and Hana were naked under the blankets to resolve their pee-related feud, Chiyo snapped away one of the blankets, as if she knew the pair was there. It turned out that she was only trying to tidy up the room.
** Chiyo asked Hana whether she liked "him". Hana thought Chiyo found out that about her crush on Kiyoshi. Turned out Chiyo was referring to the frog that Hana was staring at.
** After Kiyoshi made his love confession to Chiyo, she [[spoiler:bowed down to Kiyoshi for what appeared to be an apology due to her rejecting him. It turned out that she was apologizing to Hana instead - the feeling Chiyo had for Kiyoshi was mutual. Not that it resulted in a happy ending]]...

* BaitAndSwitch: When Gakuto finds himself in a box with a very forward senpai in Chapter 247, it appears that she had him finger her. 248 reveals that his hand was actually under her armpit.

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: An alternate interpretation of [[spoiler:Mari's abrupt departure without notice. Her conflicts with both the boys and the Aboveground Student Council almost always put her on the losing end, and the destruction of the prison was the final straw]].

* DeusAngstMachina: A big one relative to a comedy series. For the past few days before the BBQ, Chiyo continued with her naive optimism that people are planning a surprise birthday party for her. Not only did that not happen, [[spoiler:Hana meets her only to give her a disparaging account of Kiyoshi, whom she had a crush on. Kiyoshi arrives, and not only did he not know its her birthday, he gave his love confession while at the same time admitting to all the crazy things he did with Hana. Chiyo, ever the understanding girl, still chose to accept both the good and bad side of him... Until Hana revealed that Kiyoshi was a sexual deviant - He wore Hana's panties to make a love confession to Chiyo, and in the shock of that revelation, he accidentally urinated on both Hana and Chiyo... On top of all these, she had no one to turn to for comfort - She's dealing with the fact that her father is in a real prison for endangering the school during the Sports Festival, and the inevitable revelation that her sister left without a word. It is little wonder that her ending as the new USC President made her appear a little mentally unhinged.]]
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:After the many mishaps, misunderstandings, and perversions happening around all the characters, the only romance resulting in an official couple was that of Andre and Risa]].

* LoveConfession: [[spoiler:Kiyoshi finally, ''finally'' gives his to Chiyo in the last arc. He also ends up telling her about every lewd and deplorable thing he did while in Hachimitsu, leading her to accept his feelings and his negative side because she loves him.]]

* AllForNothing: [[spoiler:It is implied that Mari had made plans to leave school during her imprisonment, which means that all her subsequent efforts to preserve the USC are for nothing, because without her the USC would be as good as disbanded.]] This was subverted in ending of the final chapter, showing that [[spoiler:Chiyo will be running the USC in her place, ensuring that it'll keep going for a while]].

* FirstGirlWins: The final story arc played this straight in one instance and averted in another.
** Played straight: [[spoiler: Kiyoshi's love confession to Chiyo was ultimately successful and reciprocated... [[DoubleSubverted at least until the final chapter]], where she soundly rejects Kiyoshi offscreen]].

The series received an anime adaptation by Creator/JCStaff for the Summer 2015 season, and has received a live-action series in October 2015. An epilogue chapter for the series was published in April 2018.

* AllForNothing: [[spoiler:It is implied that Mari had made plans to leave school during her imprisonment, which means the USC would be as good as disbanded. This also means that all her efforts to preserve the USC during the 2nd and 3rd story arc was for nothing.]] Subverted in the long run, thanks to the final chapter showing that [[spoiler:Chiyo will be running the USC in her place, ensuring that it'll keep going for a while]].
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:Mari acknowledged that she was the root cause of all the mess that happened in the school so far, skipping the BBQ celebration and left school by going on a student exchange]].

** Last but not least: Kiyoshi, Chiyo and Hana, where Hana [[spoiler:was the ThirdWheel all along]]. But even this one ends up for the worse since [[spoiler:''neither'' girl ends up with Kiyoshi.]]

* ForgottenBirthday: Chiyo's, actually, which makes the situation worse for her since [[spoiler:her dad's in jail and her sister's left without any warning]]. Kiyoshi is the only one that really cares to remember.

* SuddenCruelTwistEnding: [[spoiler:Hana, enraged and jealous that Chiyo accepted Kiyoshi's feelings, forces him to strip to reveal that he's still wearing Hana's panties. Chiyo becomes so distraught that he lied that she [[MeetTheNewBoss becomes a second Mari]], and sometime later becomes the new President of the Underground Student Council.]] End series.

** Last but not least: Kiyoshi, Chiyo and Hana, where Hana [[spoiler:was the ThirdWheel all along]].

* CharacterFocus: During the Cavalry competition, Mari and Meiko eventually took over as co-protagonists while Kiyoshi and Hana were reduced to supporting roles.

* OutOfFocus: The Cavalry competition reduced Kiyoshi and Hana into supporting roles. By the end of the competition they were reduced to non-speaking extras with their sole purpose merely to physically prop-up Mari and Meiko in their last stand against Kate's team.

* MutuallyAssuredDestruction: A non-fatal, non-physical variant. After Kate's team was rendered immobile, her last resort was to [[spoiler:activate [[RubeGoldbergDevice Mitsuko's clumsiness, of which it triggered a chain of events]] that resulted in the prison's destruction. This shocking event halted the Sports Festival and prevented determination of the victor, but the prison's destruction also rendered both student councils powerless]].

* DisasterDominoes: Mitsuko's clumsiness tends to set off such improbably unlucky chain reactions that the boys secretly nickname her the "[[RubeGoldbergDEvice Rube Goldberg]] of Klutzes".
