* TheBeard: It's revealed that [[spoiler:Ichiri's parents were originally told to pose as a married couple while holding Ichiri hostage. And in fact, Arana isn't even interested in men.]]

* HopelessBossFight: Played with in a non-video game example. [[spoiler: Ichiri is tasked with fighting [[MadeOfIron Ogun Tetsuma]], whom she thinks is her first 'Duro' level opponent. In truth, he's actually 'Guerrero' level. B.J. [[InvokedTrope deliberately set up the fight to be unwinnable]] for Ichiri, as he wanted her to be strengthen by losing and have a rematch with Tetsuma in future. In a way, the fight goes as he planned: Ichiri loses (though B.J. doesn't witness it), has her resolve tested, then fights and beats Tetsuma. The twist is that this all happens within the same night.]]

* DanceBattler: The manga. The manga is a tribute to the author's love of the martial art of Capoeira and as such goes into detail of history and the many facets of it.

* TheSoCalledCoward: An early appearance of Ichiri's father has him being bullied by a pair of thugs as he refuses to fight back. Later, it's shown that he's an incredibly talented fighter, but that he's trying to avoid notice.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: The Jogo arc is a big one of Capoeira's effectiveness in reality. 3 masters of Capoeira attempt to defeat an MMA champion Yusa Haruma and get trounced. Mestre Mao's complex and trickery style of Capoeira Angola gets dismantled by Yusa's simple MMA strikes, and Mestres Koizumi and Rua are defeated by his grappling, getting finished by his ground strikes and submission holds respectively once they hit the ground. Ichiri holds her own against him as she has co-trained grappling alongside her own Capoeira and at best, she manages a draw against the MMA champion.

''Batuque'' is a manga by Toshio Sako, first published in ''Young Jump'' in July 2018. It follows Ichiri Sanjou, a skate-boarding high-schooler who chafes under the restrictions set on her by her parents. A chance encounter in the park, followed by a convenience store robbery, introduces her to a seemingly homeless Brazilian man who practices UsefulNotes/{{Capoeira}} (later revealed to be named Mestre Buscapé). Ichiri and her friends begin tutelage under him, and Ichiri seems to be a natural at it, embracing both the combat and also the message of freedom in the art. However, there is more going on beneath the surface than she realizes, as parts of her her early life start coming back to her and she begins to realize that her family has secrets they have been keeping from her about their origins...
