When ElementalPowers are ColorCodedForYourConvenience, air and wind, being invisible and colorless, presents a conundrum. Blue, Yellow and Red are taken by water, earth or lightning and fire, generaly, and white, the color most likely to be assigned to wind by western cultures, may be taken by some form of WhiteMagic, be it holy, light and/or healing spells.

So is many settings, wind gets associated with green, either in the color coding system, in the motifs of the characters using it, by making the actual spell effects green, or any combination of those.

A common trope especially in video games that feature ElementalPowers. If the elements are color coded, then fire is inevitably red, ice/[==]{{water is blue}}, lightning is usually yellow, and so on.

What makes WindIsGreen notable is that it isn't a consistent feature, but it appears prominently enough.

fire, generaly, and white, the color most likely to be assigned to wind by western cultures, may be taken by DivineMagic, light and/or healing spells.

So
is that it many settings, wind gets associated with green, either in the color coding system, by making the actual spell effects green, or both.

The reason
isn't obvious unless you poke through Oriental philosophy and symbolism. In Hinduism, green is the color of the heart chakra, which is also associated with air. The association bleeds over into Buddhism somewhat, though not consistently. Additionally, Taoist philosophy believed that wind was a consistent feature, but product of the element wood; if you think about it, the most obvious sign of wind is when it appears prominently enough.

blows through grass and trees. Therefore, you'll see this trope mostly in Oriental works, particularly Japanese VideoGames, even though yellow and white are also cited as being associated with air by Chinese and Japanese symbolism.

Apparently we have no agreement on what this trope is supposed to be about, so reverting it to it's old description.

Many works have ElementalPowers as a theme, and most of these are easy to display. Fire is clearly visible, as is water and earth, but what about wind? A literal display would have it be entirely invisible, but that's not easy for the audience to keep track of.

The solution? Make the wind green.

Especially common in Asian fiction, since in Asia wind is also [[PetalPower closely associated with]] [[GreenThumb plants]].

A common trope, especially in video games that feature ElementalPowers, is that every element will have a color associated with it. This way, you know that anything red is related to fire, blue to water, ect.

A few common examples of this trope are as follows.
* '''Fire''': Almost exclusively red.
* '''Water''': Almost exclusively blue. In settings where water and ice are distinct, water will tend to be a darker blue, ice a lighter blue.
* '''Wind''': Usually green, as per the trope name.
* '''Earth''': Yellow, brown, and orange are all common.
* '''Light''': Usually white or a bright yellow.
* '''Dark''': Usually black, though dark purple is not rare.
