* While Franchise/MortalKombat as a whole never had a Masquerade in older timelines, VideoGame/MortalKombat1 shows that Liu Kang, now Earthrealm's protector god, wishes to reveal to Earth's inhabitants the existence of other worlds and races. In Johnny Cage's ending, it is he who Kang delegates this duty to, and Johnny chooses to do so bit by bit via a multimedia franchise.

This is usually more complicated than it sounds. There are government organizations, if not worse, dedicated to keeping the masquerade, and who aren't above taking drastic measures to deal with people who learn too much about the secret world. It usually takes more than just a few werewolves on [=YouTube=] to get people to believe. Poking the problem too much can easily get you killed. And that's assuming the person is one of the good guys. Many plots revolve around trying to keep the villain from murdering people as part of their plan to unmasque the world.

* Manga/CallOfTheNight: Unmasquing the world is the whole point of 's plan to "destroy the night". By [[spoiler:dying in such a way that people could not reasonably deny that something inhuman killed her and ensuring that the investigation into her parents' deaths would be reopened]], the world would realize that vampires are real and stay off the streets at night to deny them their blood, leaving all vampires to starve to death within a decade.

->"Anomalous people are people, and the anomalous itself is not a threat merely for existing. Yes, it presents danger, but so do germs and meteors and forest fires. Suppressing knowledge of something will only make it more dangerous, and keep all of us huddling, frightened, in the dark. When normalcy starts hurting the people who have to live under it, to try to cure a 'poison', normalcy is itself the poison."

She drops her story so her parents won't lose credibility while suing Affron. I assumed the plotline would be picked up in later books, but it isn't, and by the end of the series she wants to uphold the masquerade.

* Literature/JuniperSawfeather: June wants to show the world that mermaids are real because if she can prove that there are sentient beings in the ocean, people will care more about protecting the environment. For that very reason, Affron Oil has been trying to capture mermaids before anyone else sees them.

* In , Bella believes everyone deserves the option to become a vampire if they want to, and hates that she can't offer her human family and friends the choice (since, once they were in on the secret, they'd have no choice but to either turn or be killed by the Volturi). Her goal is to set up a new vampire government that will prevent vampires from eating humans, and eventually reveal the secret so all humans can have the free choice of turning.
