The curious thing, though, is that in any setting where [[BarefootCartoonAnimal fully dressed, but barefoot]] or [[HalfDressedCartoonAnimal half-dressed]] cartoon animals are the norm, there will usually be ''one'' character who subverts this by wearing shoes, socks, or booties of some kind. Often this is a sign of the character's "otherness" among the cast, or [[TertiarySexualCharacteristics employed to emphasize]] [[WomenLoveShoes a character's femininity]]. (Or [[TheSmurfettePrinciple both]].)

* Po the Panda is the only panda in the ''Franchise/KungFuPanda'' and in ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda3'' who wears shoes. The mountain pandas are [[EarthyBarefootCharacter| s]]

* ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'': Chip in ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'' is the inverse of this: he is one of the few characters who ''does not'' wear shoes. Given how running really fast is practically mandatory for all Sonic characters, many of the characters [[HalfDressedCartoonAnimal wear shoes]], [[WhiteGloves white gloves]], and nothing else if they're male.

* ''WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants'', though stretching the definition of FunnyAnimal as far as it can go, has titular character himself be one of the few characters in the show to wear shoes. Sandy is also another one, but they come with the diving suit. In her home, she's a straight-up HalfDressedCartoonAnimal. Pearl wears her white boots.
