* According to author BrandonSanderson, this will be one of the things explored in his ten-book epic fantasy series TheStormlightArchive (of which only the first has been published so far) in part as a reaction to so many epic fantasies he read in his youth being about the inevitable loss of magic and wonder. In his new series, the world will rapidly become a lot more fantastical, new races will be discovered, and wonderment will increase.

* Partly straight, partly averted in ''The Dresden Files''. In that world, the past was very much magical, most of the old fairy-tales and myths have at least some basis in reality, but that world evolved into ours, which superficially appears to be magic-free. Partly averted, in fact magic never went away, it's still quite common and very potent, but a Council of the most powerful Wizards deliberately worked to suppress the other magical nasties and police their own, giving the human race breathing space to expand, grow, and industrialize.

Again, Dragon Age isn\'t an example of this trope. The difference between this trope and the Dragon Age situation is that magic was still around. It never went away in the first place.

* ''DragonAge'' is a good example of this trope being a bad thing. An ancient threat resurfaces, a legendary witch [[spoiler:dragon]] leaves her secluded swamp and begins to scheme anew, the darkest secrets of the lost Dwarven thaigs are being rediscovered, great and terrible High Dragons are growing in number again (the Dragon Age was even named such because of this), the guardian beasts of the fallen Elven kingdom of Arlathan are awakening, and [[DragonAgeII the sequel]] reveals that the Tevinter Magister Empire, an evil regime founded on BloodMagic, has regained nearly all of the power it lost since the First Blight and Andraste's revolution. This is on top of a CivilWar between Mages and Templars which even the Chantry cannot suppress anymore.

These aren\'t examples. Magic has always existed in Dragon Age and the Castlevania situation is more of a potential The Unmasqued World

* Seems to be the case for ''DragonAge''. The current century is named the Dragon Age for the reappearance of the titular creatures after centuries of being on the verge of extinction, a great many relics of the past have been uncovered, and an Old God may have returned to the world.

There may be surges of interest in magic but, for reasons that should be obvious, this trope doesn\'t apply to Real Life

* In the ''{{Alternity}}'' campaign setting ''Dark•Matter'', the level of supernatural activity on Earth is directly linked to the amount of dark matter in the universe, which is likened to a tide pool. The rising tide of dark matter, however, is not a good thing. Not only are many supernatural beings extremely dangerous, but previous risings of the tide have resulted in mass extinction events, as noted in the Mayan calendar.

* The goal of the BigBad in ''TheLongestJourney'' could be considered this, in that he plans to re-join the worlds of Stark (world of science, i.e. our Earth) and Arcadia (medieval world of magic), which have been split up for millennia due to the dangers of mixing science and magic. In the beginning of the game, strange, magical things start happening to the people of Stark. Also, the fact that all advanced technology failed in-between ''The Longest Journey'' and ''{{Dreamfall}}'' implies that it was an unwitting product of magic seeping into Stark.
