* Warg Rider Captain in ''VideoGame/LordOfTheRingsTheTwoTowers'' can only be damaged when his Warg rises on hind legs to taunt you. Given that he’s smart enough to speak Common Tongue (the arrival of his flunkies is signalled by him saying "Finally! Kill this one!"), one would think he would’ve learned not to do that after the first time.

* The second game in the ''VideoGame/CTSpecialForces'' series has the Middle Eastern insurgent leader, Arum Baya, who attacks you in an armored vehicle which deflects ALL your shots, and has a Gatling gun on its top capable of hurting you. He's practically invincible, but for some reason, every few seconds during the battle, Arum Baya will deliberately stick half his body out of the armored vehicle to take potshots at you via machine-gun. Doing so allows you to damage him until he ends up crashing the vehicle.

* VideoGame/{{Klonoa}}'s only means of attack is grabbing and throwing enemies, meaning ''every boss in the series'' would be unbeatable if they'd just stop summoning minions.

** In ''VideoGame/MegaManX7'', you fight Snipe Anteator on top of a large pipe. Something is stopping you from going too far left or right -- but the Maverick can go all the way around to the underside of the pipe any time he wants. You can't hit him there, but his Moving Wheel can still hit you. He could finish you off in total safety if he just stayed down there.

** ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog1''
*** Spring Yard Zone's boss is a zigzag as Eggman normmally floats outside of Sonic's jump range. However he only has one attack that involves plucking the blocks Sonic is standing on one by one with a single spike on the underside of his craft. Thus he has to go down into jump height range in order to do this but this also introduces BossArenaUrgency so Sonic needs to land the necessary hits during these windows or he'll be snuffed. While Eggman could have thought of a better attack system to deal with Sonic the one attack he does have is enough of a threat to where it might be worth the risk to take damage from Sonic (since obviously the spike also does damage while it's extended, meaning Sonic can't simply bop him from underneath if he's descending).
*** Star Light Zone's boss cannot be hit with Sonic's standard jump height. Instead the only way to damage the boss is to take advantage of the spike bombs he drops, either by using the seesaws in the arena to fling the bombs back at Eggman or using them as a counterweight to launch Sonic higher than his jump normally allows and do direct damage.
