Some {{trope}}s can be pretty broad in scope, enough to cover one or more {{Sub Trope}}s under them.

Let's say you have {{trope}}s for "Scarf Juggling" and "Knife Juggling". Just plain "Juggling" would be the SuperTrope for both of them.

In short, if you took every example of a [[SuperTrope super trope]] and combined with every example of its [[SubTropes sub tropes]], they would all count as examples of the [[SuperTrope super trope]].

In logic terms, the SuperTrope would be the genus, and the [[SubTrope sub tropes]] the species.

Do not confuse this with different {{trope}}s simply having a common element. That is a standard index (although a [[SuperTrope super trope]] can be an index if it has enough [[SubTrope sub tropes]]).

* BiggerIsBetter covers a... big collection of tropes.
* TryingToCatchMeFightingDirty covers a number of tropes that are both CombatTropes (like TTCMFD itself) and not necessarily related to combat. One of those second tropes, WeNeedADistraction, is a supertrope with a number of {{subtrope}}s of its own.

* {{Conflict}} is one of the most super of all tropes, given any story needs it in some form.

* [=~Show, Don't Tell~=] covers tropes such as InformedAttribute and ThatMakesMeFeelAngry.
* {{Badass}} can come in so many forms, because badass is just too awesome to contain in one.

* Many of the RuleOfIndex tropes are super tropes.

If enough tropes are covered under a Super Trope, it becomes an index.

If enough tropes are covered under a Super Trope, it becomes an index as well. But the difference between this and any [[IndexIndex Index]] is that the Super Trope is still a trope itself, while an Index is just a list of tropes. XanatosPlannedThisIndex is just an index, while RuleOfCool is a Super Trope and an index.

Now remember that this means having a wider scope than another trope. It does not mean [[TheSameButMore just a more extreme version of that trope]] (that's ExaggeratedTrope anyway).
