When Mustang refuses, the Doctor has Riza Hawkeye's [[SlashedThroat throat slashed]] and [[SadisticChoice puts her in danger of bleeding to death unless Mustang agrees to do the transmutation]]. Mustang is initially conflicted about what to do, then he notices Hawkeye look upwards towards the ceiling and decides... not to perform the transmutation. It turns out Hawkeye was telling him through an eye signal that help is on the way, so there's no need to go through with the Doctor's demands. May Chang and the Chimeras come to the rescue and May treats Haweye's wound, though the Homunculi still ultimately succeed in turning Mustang into their final sacrifice by using Pride's [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique last resort]] to bodily force Mustang to open the portal.
