* In ''VisualNovel/NewDanganRonpaV3'', [[spoiler: Kokichi Oma was a NiceGuy and the leader of a clown/comedy troupe. However, through brainwashing, he ended up receiving this treatment by having his "character" in the killing game be a psychopath and his clown/comedy troupe ends up being his "evil secret organization".]]

** [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8124079/1/Serpent-s-Kiss Serpent's Kiss]] turns the secretary that kissed Captain America in Film/CaptainAmerica:TheFirstAvenger into a HYDRA agent who was attempting to assassinate Steve Rogers. This is an interesting example of this trope, as the author states they did this because they thought the character [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter had some unexplored potential]].

* It's semi-canonical, in that the text can be interpreted in different ways, but a lot of productions of ''Theatre/TheMerchantOfVenice'' (notably that with LaurenceOlivier as Shylock) not only make Shylock [[AntiVillain as sympathetic as is possible]], but also chose the most unflattering interpretations of the protagonists' characters.

* In ''VideoGame/{{Outlast}}'' fanfiction, it's not unheard of for Waylon Park to get this treatment from the more insane YaoiFangirls due to his rejecting the "love" of [[DracoInLeatherPants ridiculously fan-popular]] Eddie Gluskin. To these fans, Waylon's motivations stem entirely from being a petty and selfish monster or a vile homophobe, and have nothing to do with either the fact he's canonically straight (HappilyMarried and with two sons, in fact), or the fact that, y'know, Gluskin is a FauxAffablyEvil SerialKiller who wants to ''hack off Waylon's genitals in the belief he can use the resultant hole as a vagina''.

* Jade from ''WesternAnimation/JackieChanAdventures'' is a unique case regarding this trope since normally it isn't done out of malice. In one episode, she was briefly corrupted by dark magic and became "the Queen of the Shadowkhan". Many fans liked this portrayal of the character even though Jade was turned back to normal by episode's end. Several fanfics exist that have Jade becoming the Queen again one way or another.

** One author, Zounose, has Byakuren come up with a way to keep the youkai she takes care of from eating people: use the corpses of recently dead babies to fertilize the fruit trees she grows, so that the resulting fruit technically counts as human flesh[[note]]According to the local [[UnreliableExpert "expert"]] on everything in the series' setting, and the youkai themselves (who are also prone to saying things to scare off humans), youkai require human flesh to survive. In fanon, this often ranges from being outright ignored or questioned, to proof that youkai are all sadistic eldritch abominations with an evil morality, out to murder humans[[/note]]. Just so we're clear that the author doesn't consider this to be a good thing, everything is done in sinister tones and [[http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1246597?tags=zounose Byakuren chews on the flesh of one of the fruits, signifying she's a technical cannibal]], which is, for obvious reasons, a major no-no in Japan. Or anywhere else. The same artist also considers Sakuya to be willing to murder her own mistress, someone she's undyingly loyal to in canon.

** A DarkFic author by the name of Stripe Pattern believes Byakuren, a Buddhist magician in charge of a temple, is a psychotic monster. In Stripe Pattern's doujin ''Love and Peace'', Byakuren genocides the entire human village, as she declares [[SocialDarwinist humans to be weak-willed, compared to the "strong" youkai]], citing Buddhism to support her actions. The author ''actually quotes'' Byakuren's background to support the "fact" she's evil.\\

* Sure the titular character of WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarepants can be annoying and troublesome, but he is still well intended. Despite this, many people, who believe that the cartoon suffered SeasonalRot, will paint him as a VillainProtagonist, who annoys or causes trouble on purpose. The fanfic, [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9995393/1/Squidward-wins Squidward Wins!]] is a notable example.

* ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'':
** The fanfic ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12228041/1/Strike Strike]]'' is written by an author who hates the depicted pairing, [[DieForOurShip and it shows]]. In this fic, set many years after canon, Stan ([[FanNickname nicknamed]] [[Franchise/StarWars "Darth]] [[NotAsYouKnowThem Stan"]] by the reviewers) is turned into a possessive DomesticAbuser and ControlFreak, who beats Wendy regularly, so much so that he caused her to have ''five miscarriages'' before the story even starts. He constantly belittles her intelligence and prevents her from getting a job (even though he [[TheAlcoholic spends all of their money on alcohol]]) and continually uses [[OriginalCharacter their son]] as emotional blackmail, constantly threatening to take him away from her because of her [[BlatantLies alleged]] bad parenting, blaming her for the kid's slow language development. He is convinced that she is cheating on him, and even goes so far as to [[spoiler:''shoot and kill her'' [[IfICantHaveYou out of irrational jealousy]]. Though this turns out to just be part of a story-within-a-story]], the rest of the abuse is not, as the story was written by another character in order to deter Wendy from going back to him. It is quite difficult to imagine the canonical Stan doing anything like this, let alone the [[ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend canonical]] [[LittleMissBadass Wendy]] [[{{Chickification}} allowing the relationship to deteriorate to this point]] to begin with. The other characters aren't any more in-character: Kyle is StupidNeutral about the whole thing, [[DracoInLeatherPants Cartman]] is the one to take initiative in getting Wendy out, and Heidi and Bebe somehow get convinced, [[NotSoDifferent using the same flimsy logic as Stan]], that Wendy is trying to steal Cartman from Heidi, though they see reason at the end.
