* BattleForDreamIsland:
** In BFB, Team Beep is falling down a hole, the bottom of which has a layer of acid that will dissolve them if they touch it. However, Balloony points out that Cloudy has the ability to fly - he lost it in a prior episode, but due to no longer wearing the bandages that restrained him, he has it back.
** In the next episode, Team Bleh is trapped by lava, and is concerned that they have no way out. However, Lollipop points out that two of their members - Saw and Dora - are lavaproof, and they could swim through the lava to ask Four to get them out of their predicament.

** In the VideoGame/BreathOfFireIV game this also happens, but the fallen person (Nina) isn't caught in time and falls. Ryu rushes down rumping into ledges to try and catch her, and after going past her he promptly (face)falls down to the bottom himself.

** This is especially painful because it comes shortly after Tsuzuki cracked bulletproof glass with his punch of sheer rage at the same guy who's now escaping for no good reason. He seriously takes IdiotHero to new levels.

Owl flies out of the pit to talk to Piglet, and gives a rousing speech, convincing Piglet to go off. Owl hops back into the pit, and all his friends stare at him.

* In the Literature/HeraldsOfValdemars foray into SwordAndSorcery, Tarma and Kethry have a CoolSword called Need. Usually sorceress Kethry carries Need, and for her the sword uses SymbioticPossession to make her fight with a skill and power she normally lacks. When fighter Tarma carries Need, Need makes her a MageKiller completely untouchable by magic, breaking any spells put on her and No Selling even a demon on the threshhold to godhood. Tarma dislikes Need, and Need protects Kethry and makes her far less of a SquishyWizard, but they never seem to remember that they can just hand Need over for a few minutes when squaring off against enemy mages - they only ever seem to do this in a moment of desperation, such as when Kethry falls in battle.

*** Actually, it's easier to list classes that don't have some way of bypassing fall damage... Death Knights. The problem is, knowing which ability it was when some classes have an applied buff like Priest, some just turn tempoarily invincible and NoSell the ground like Paladin, and others use a jumping or dashing ability to somehow bypass fall damage like Warrior. Remembering how you're supposed to do it can be quite a hassle. Especially if you weren't expecting to be plummeting.

* Used in WesternAnimation/AladdinTheSeries. Aladdin asks another character to take a rope to the top of a high tower for him, at which point said character launches into a diatribe about how dangerous this would be for him, and how crazy and inconsiderate a thing it is to ask of him. Aladdin's response is to wait the rant out, as there's no point in trying to reason with him until he's finished, then points out to him that he can fly. At which point, the character, who is the parrot, Iago, says, "Oh, yeah."

There's a reason this trope was renamed from "Forgot I Could Fly" to the current name. It's not enough for a character to forget their powers or abilities. They have to ADDRESS that they forgot about them

** In another episode, the girls are trapped at the bottom of a pit by gross kid Harry Pitt, and run constantly around it to avoid getting kissed by him and getting cooties...forgetting they can simply fly out. In a case of irony, they realize Harry is fine and they kiss him back, then they fly out of the pit.

Can be more or less justified if the powers are rarely useful or too specific, so that the character has not used them for a long time; if the power's use in this situation is an entirely new one; if the character has (or has had) a good reason to avoid the use, and so got into the habit of not thinking of it; or if the power itself was gained only recently, and the character is not used to having it as an option. Also by not having time enough to think.
