A Petting Zoo Person is a type of character who is so anthropomorphized that they resemble an animal's skin, head and tail placed on an otherwise human body frame (think of one of those costumed, silent "mascots" at a sports event, or the costumed characters at Disney theme parks). This is a higher degree of [[SlidingScaleOfAnthropomorphism anthropomorphism]] than the FunnyAnimal (who retain the [[http://cartooncave.blogspot.com/2009/01/anthropomorphism.html general shape and proportions of the animal]]), but a step below those that are a LittleBitBeastly (whose ''only'' animal features are their [[UnusualEars ears]] and tail, possibly claws); in Japan, this level of anthropomorphism is referred to as "[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kemono kemono]]" (which is shortened term of ''kemono-obito'' or beast-man, and is also what [[UsefulNotes/FurryFandom Japanese furry fans]] call themselves). There some TruthInTelevision to this trope- Homo sapiens aren't the only species who have a naturally humanlike voice.

* The horror version of this trope, ''Literature/TheIslandOfDoctorMoreau'', has been adapted to the screen several times, the most notable though are 1932 ''Film/IslandOfLostSouls'', the 1977 adaptation and probably the most famous, the 1997 adaptation ''Film/TheIslandOfDoctorMoreau'', in all of these version Moreau's mutated animals are Petting Zoo People (as human actors with animal-like customes). In the book version the animals are described more borderline, almost like FunnyAnimal, [[NightmareFuel except that there's nothing funny about them]].
