Not realizing there are two Spideys, this sends Sandman into a fit of rage, reasoning that Spider-Man clearly no longer cares and rather than be converted into food he decides to kill the hero, by forcing himself into Spidey's mouth and exploding his body from inside in a rather gruesome (if bloodless) manner.
