* ''Series/CrazyExGirlfriend'' parodies this in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaVvfzMTVZA "The Moment is Me,"]] an intentionally trite song about facing the future. Heather approaches an old woman in the park thinking to ask for life advice, only to realize that the old woman is ''her'' future self and is similarly disgusted by how cliche the song is.

* In Craig Morgan's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSdItuvBxc8&ob=av2e "This Ain't Nothin',"]] a reporter asks an old man what he plans to do after a tornado destroyed his entire home. The old man tells him that a destroyed house is nothing that money can't replace - at age 8 he lost his father; in Vietnam he lost his brother, his best friend, and his left hand; and last year his wife of fifty years died - so a ruined house is ''nothing''.

* Music/KennyRogers' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q2mFiN7GIc "The Gambler"]] is about the narrator speaking to an older man on a train. The older man gives him advice about life, comparing life to a game of cards.

* In Music/BradPaisley:
** "Letter To Me," where a middle-aged man recalls his youth and wonders aloud, if he could write a letter to his younger self and send it to him, what would he say about the experiences he had and how would he tell him to handle various situations. Some are difficult, such as dealing with severe heartbreak after breaking up with very desirable girlfriend, breaking the habit of reckless driving and missing social events (including the mentioned homecoming bonfire) to improve a failing algebra grade. Others include sage advice, such as spending time with older relatives while they are still in good health, doing your best for a hard-nosed but well-respected teacher and that regrets will come from not taking the opportunity to learn Spanish or typing. Yet others are light-hearted, such as finally finding the right woman and telling him his best years are ahead and that he eventually will marry and begin a family.

* ''Series/CrazyExGirlfriend'' parodies this in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaVvfzMTVZA The Moment is Me]]", an intentionally trite song about facing the future. Heather approaches an old woman in the park thinking to ask for life advice, only to realize that the old woman is ''her'' future self and is similarly disgusted by how cliche the song is.

* "You Are Old, Father William" is a Lewis Carroll poem written into the narrative of Literature/AliceInWonderland. It involves a young man questioning his father's silly, age-inappropriate behaviors. (It's also a parody of a [[WeirdAlEffect long-forgotten]] moralizing poem by Robert Southey, "The Old Man's Comforts and How He Gained Them.") The poem was turned into [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA9LP7m2XI8 a song]] by Music/TheyMightBeGiants for the soundtrack to the 2010 Creator/TimBurton film adaptation. Sammy Davis Jr. also performed it as a song in the 1985 TV musical version of ''Alice in Wonderland''.

I was so surprised these two songs weren't on here that I'm almost doubting if they count. Remove if so.

** In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czw4HjgZ9Fs Almost Home]]" the narrator wakes up a homeless old man he finds sleeping outside in subzero weather. The old man shares the dream he had been having about a nostalgic day in his youth, and wishes the narrator had left him alone because he was "almost home". This was intentionally left open-ended on whether he meant he was almost home in the dream, or almost home to Heaven.

* The infamous ballad "I've Never Been to Me" by OneHitWonder Charlene is a distaff variation, sung by a woman who stops a younger woman on the street and tells her to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. The song's writers also wrote a gender-shifted version where the narrator is a haggard old man talking to a younger man.
