Quite a few times, this trope will be the reason why the man will ''not'' be afflicted with TheDulcineaEffect towards this girl. And to contrast, he will instead be shown to be afflicted with TheDulcineaEffect towards a girl who is much more passive. Granted, it doesn't matter whether or not the girl is (or isn't) an ActionGirl - even if she's strong in combat, as long as she's passive and shy romance-wise, she'll still be more desirable compared to a DamselInDistress who is too eager. Compare MyGirlIsNotASlut; the logic may be that a woman so eager to pursue one man will be just as eager to pursue another man. (As if it had nothing to do with her crush on one particular man.)

* Haiyoru! Nyaru-Ani fits this trope very well. The heroine Nyaruko's pervertly love towards the protagonist Mahiro makes her a nuisance towards Mahiro. She (intentionally or not) constantly annoys him so much that he wanted to drive her out of his life whenever there is an opportunity presented. Nyaruko's desire to make kids with Mahiro always drove him to the edge. How does Mahiro fend her off? With his trusty fork! (Im serious!)

**** a shy female troper has this tidbit of info: There was a guy that I liked (and later loved), and when I first knew that he liked me, I took the initiative to ask him myself. "We got together and had a wonderful relationship" right? WRONG. This equally shy guy turned me down even though I knew for a fact that he liked me, and he also told lots of people (I expected some friends but never strangers) and had me standing in front of everyone everyday for months, totally embarrassed and sadden. That was my first experience, and thanks to that, I will never make the first move on a guy ever again.
**** In short, life sucks. Unfortunately there is truth to this, no matter what the books and talk shows tell you.

** What. if anything, would suggest that book's authors would have any relevant expertise on psychology? The wikipedia articles about the authors don't seem to mention any relevant credentials. Unless their "self-help" advice is based on sound science, then I would suggest that ANY reliance on them is a flat-out case of misplaced authority.

** This troper read one that tried to convince female readers of the logic of this by suggesting that if a man doesn't ask the woman out first, then it is probably because he is afraid-and that if this is the case then he is not worthy of your affections. Taking into account my thing for nerdy, socially awkward guys, I was not amused.

*** How about this for an alternative; if you like, or support, or even pity shy guys, then if a girl says shy guys aren't worthy of affection then you should regard such a girl as unworthy of affection.

* One of the old leap year traditions is that a woman may only propose marriage on ''one'' day every four years. Although this tradition was justified in older years due to gender roles, some people today still think that a woman is only 'allowed' to propose on February 29th every leap year.
