However, a recent trend in popular fiction (particularly the DarkerAndEdgier variety) of characters {{lampshad|ehanging}}ing this trope has led to the growing belief that the ''opposite'' is true: that everyone shits themselves on death. You die, you shit yourself, that's the way it is. Actually, this trope ''is'' more or less TruthInTelevision. Exact statistics are hard to find (surprisingly, nobody has done a scientific survey), but anecdotal evidence suggests this happens only around 30% of the time. How the victim died is also a factor.

In fiction, much like many unpleasant and unromantic aspects of dying, this is almost always ignored. Therefore, we have a case of No Dead Body Poops, where the death scene is almost always much ''much'' less nasty than it could be in real life. This is not surprising, given most people are not aware that someone dying can be a [[{{Pun}} crapshoot]]. It is also somewhat [[UndignifiedDeath undignified]] -- it really wouldn't do for someone's HeroicSacrifice to end with a fart noise and a bad smell, would it?
