* ''WesternAnimation/TurningRed'': Mei and her family's ancestor, Sun Yee, is portrayed with a red stole floating around her, both in an etching in the family temple and in the astral plane, on both her human and red panda forms. She received a divine blessing allowing her to turn into a giant red panda to protect her daughters in wartime, and she passed that ability further down the line to her female descendants. For that, she's been worshipped as far down the line as the early 21st century, despite the fact that she was alive in (roughly) Ming dynasty.

* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'': Ōtsutsuki [[MeaningfulName Hagoromo]] was the mythical Sage of Six Paths, a SemiDivine figure responsible for creating ninjutsu and bestowing chakra on humanity. This turns out to be specifically a ShoutOut to the ''hagoromo'' from ''Literature/TheTaleOfTheBambooCutter'', as [[spoiler:he is also responsible for [[SealedEvilInACan sealing away his evil mother]], Ōtsutsuki Kaguya]].
