* Bacteria and viruses that are lethal to humans are a variation of this. They're typically suited to life inside a specific host species, and they try not to kill the host that provides them with warmth, shelter and nutrition for the same reason humans don't burn their own houses down. Measles, tuberculosis and smallpox, for example, are minor nuisances to a cow because the inside of a cow's body is their natural habitat - it's their difficulty adapting to human biology that makes them so dangerous if/when a human gets infected. And that's just transmission from animals to humans. With modern air travel, diseases can spread quickly around the world. The UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic is a spectacular modern example.

* An interesting inversion of this trope occurred after wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park in 1995. They'd been hunted out of the area in the 1930s by humans trying to protect their families and livestock; but they were the primary predator for the local elk population. Without the wolves, the elk had a population explosion and weren't forced to migrate away during winter. With too many elk, much of the local willow trees were browsed on to the point their growth became stunted; beavers that needed those willow branches to survive in the winter died off; without the beavers and the dams they build, streams were allowed to flow too freely in the boom and bust of seasonal precipitation, hurting fish and insect species. Reintroducing the wolves reversed all of this, and more, as the local scavenger species now also have a dependable food source year-round and in general the ecosystem is doing much better.

** Certain Earth animals end up as this when they arrive. For example, Kaimere in the past had a diversity of wetland species. Almost all of them are outcompeted during the arrival of the common hippo.
** Ironically, the Portal organisms bring in animals from Earth to stabilize the ecosystem after an extinction event. When either the new species can't compete against the local life forms and die out or outcompetes the local species into extinction, this causes the Portals to bring in more species and speed up the process.
** The Earth pigs brought to Kaimere and breed with local boar pigs carried diseases into the merchant era, which spread to local hogs, then to slaves. The Barren Plague caused a mass quarantine in the known world.
** The pouch rat, a multituberculate from the island of Pakardia, is unique in being an island endemic that was able to outcompete against mainland multituberculates and rodents when the situation is normally reversed. This is because the enhanced grains made by the First Children, who the pouch rats stowed away with, boosted their health and breeding rate.

** Ambulls have been spread to many worlds as potential livestock. Their tunneling habits, aggression and physical strength made them impossible to contain, however, and they have since become established as pernicious, dangerous exotics across the galaxy.
** Razorwings have been introduced to many worlds, where their intelligence, aggression and wide array of natural weapons make them a dangerous invasive species. They can easily slaughter most prey animals they set their sights on, often culling herbivore populations to a degree that causes serious problems for ranches and meat exporters, and few native predators can meaningfully compete with them once their become established.

* An example that had nothing to do with humans occurred about 3 million years ago when North America connected to the once isolated South America and caused what's known as the Great American Interchange. Species from both continents would cross into the other but it was definitely more one-sided in favor of the north as many of the native predatory marsupials, terror birds, giant rodents and native ungulates were outcompeted and replaced by canines, big cats, camelids and elephants. However there is some debate on whether it was as simple as competition as some ground sloths, terror birds and giant armadillos managed to make it all the way into North America, some theorize that the extinction of the South American megafauna was more to due with the ice age that was starting up adversely affecting the southern ecosystems and the northern animals just took advantage of the now vulnerable natives.

* An example Historically, it was thought that had nothing this happened to do most of the ancient South American megafauna, like terror birds, pouched carnivores (sparassodonts), giant rodents, and local ungulates when they crossed paths with humans occurred about 3 million years ago when North America connected to the once isolated South America American wildlife like saber-toothed cats, bears, elephants, camels, horses, and caused what's known as such, during the Great American Interchange. Species from both continents would cross into the other but it was definitely Interchange, 3-2 million years ago. However, this theory has faced scrutiny in more one-sided in favor of recent years, since some animal like the north as many of the native predatory marsupials, terror birds, giant rodents bird Titanis and native glyptodont Glyptotherium successfully established themselves in North America, while ground sloths not only survived there but thrived and diversified quickly. Meanwhile, while many South American ungulates were outcompeted did vanish around that time, those that survived, like Toxodon and replaced by canines, big cats, camelids Macrauchenia, did well for themselves until 10,000 years ago, despite the onslaught of new competitors, and elephants. However there is some debate on whether it the same was as simple as competition as some true for the local ground sloths, sloths and glyptodonts, who not only remained diverse but grew larger than ever before. Likewise, the last of the giant terror birds and giant armadillos managed to make it all sparassodonts vanished from the way fossil record before most of the northern placental carnivores like saber-toothed cats or short-faced bears radiated into North South America, some theorize leading to speculation that the native predators were already in decline due to unrelated factors like climate change. Overall, the reality behind the extinction of the various South American megafauna was more to due with the ice age that was starting up adversely affecting the southern ecosystems and the northern animals just took advantage of the now vulnerable natives.was likely far more complicated than previously thought.

* Some paleontologists suggest that this led to the extinction of the dwarf sauropod Europasaurus holgeri, found in the Langenberg Quarry of northern Germany. During the Late Jurassic, Europe was covered by the ancient Tethys Sea and made up of variously-sized archipelagos. While other sites from that time, like Portugal and Britain, are known to have been inhabited by large dinosaurs, Langenberg seems to have been an ecosystem of dwarfs (initially), with the rhino-sized Europasaurus living alongside lion-sized theropods. But footprints located 5 m above the deposit where the Europasaurus fossils come from, show that some 35,000 years later, there was a drop in sea level which allowed new wildlife to invade the environment, including a large 26-30 foot long theropod (likely similar to Allosaurus or Torvosaurus), which could have wiped out the native Europasaurus. If true, this would have been akin to lions or tigers invading an island where the largest land herbivores were gazelle.

* VideoGame/Dishonored: The Pandyssian rats were introduced to Dunwall by in an attempt to KillThePoor. Pandyssia is a DeathWorld full of nasty predators that keep the rat population manageable, but the biggest creatures in Dunwall are humans and hounds, both of which can be ganged up on and eaten by rat swarms. It wasn't long before the perpetrator lost control of the rats, who quickly broke free from quarantine and colonized the island. The icing on the cake is the plague the rats transmit to humans, creating a PlagueZombie Apocalypse.
** VideoGame/Dishonored2 confirms some FlavorText from the first game claiming that the rats had been introduced to Serkonos some centuries prior. Unlike in Dunwall, Serkonos has a native predator that can manage the rats in the form of the bloodflies, bird sized insects that create hives and attack in swarms.
