* In David Eddings' ''[[TheElenium Domes of Fire]]'', Stragen takes the Styric Council to task for not being more proactive in the emerging crisis in Daresia. When one of the Councillors answers by calling him a bastard, he bears it no mind...because he literally ''is'' the illegitimate son of a nobleman. He then proceeds to point out he is also a swindler, murderer, and thief (since he is also the head of a thieves' guild): glibly implying that anything they could call him would not be insulting in the least.

* When ''Film/GodsOfEgypt'' was savaged by critics upon its release, the director, Creator/AlexProyas, [[https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=195699647463502&id=100010704046009 took to Facebook]] to complain in [[DearNegativeReader a lengthy and vitriolic rant]] that he and his film were bring unfairly picked on by "a pack of diseased vultures pecking at the bones of a dying carcass". Creator/MarkKermode [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuBJIn_xiLw pointed out the problem with this]] -- vultures don't kill living things, they feed on things that are already dead. The only thing Proyas was insulting here was his own film.

* Historically, new but unpopular mathematical ideas were given pejorative names by the people intent on adhering to the ''status quo'', and then happily adopted by the people proposing the new idea. Math terms most of us have heard in school came about that way: irrational numbers, imaginary/complex numbers, pathological cases.

** 'Irrational' is not a pejorative; it is a literal description: "not expressible as a ratio".

** In ''Discworld/FeetOfClay'', Vetinari says, "What a nasty suspicious mind you have, Vimes," and Vimes thanks him. It was probably intended as a bit of a compliment in the first place anyway. Played with when Vetinari tells Vimes he has "the mind of a true policeman" when Vimes continues being ProperlyParanoid, Vimes thanks him, and Vetinari asks if that's even a compliment.

** William Wallace does this ''three times'' in his battle against George Washington. When George points out that Wallace died before he was actually free, Wallace responds by painting his death as a HeroicSacrifice while [[{{Hypocrite}} George died in a comfy home owning slaves]]. When George makes fun of Wallace's CruelAndUnusualDeath, Wallace claims even if he was emasculated, eviscerated and beheaded he'd ''still'' be able to rip George's ass on the mike. Finally when George pokes fun at Scotland for being "only famous for golf and haggis", Wallace replies with this line:
-->Don't tee off with ''me'', laddy! If you ''held my balls'', you couldn't be my caddy!
