* The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” - one of their most famous songs - has a moment at the end of the second hook where Merry Clayton’s voice cracks as she screams “Rape, murder, it’s just a shot away”. Arguably a subversive example of this trope, considering it’s become well loved by music fans and considered a classic moment.

This is more likely to happen to male characters, though female characters can also be victims.
