*** I have to add to this. The question was also asked in the book if the Wendigo was a real thing, or did some Indians get a taste for human flesh and then claim the Wendigo had touched them, as in the Devil Made Them Do It? The only person who ever actually sees anything like a Wendigo is Louis Creed, and by that point he's already well into madness, carrying his child's body. To me, these are the kinds of things that scare me about King's novels. Crazy Wendigo beast? Nah, probably not real. The demons in our own minds that cause us to do crazy stuff? Definitely real, and in all of us.
**** It may have been Louis' insanity that made him bring his son to the graveyard, but no psychological phenomenon would explain the fact that everything buried there comes back from the dead. Blame what you want on psychology and human nature, but even that can only go so far.

* The harvest festival on ParksAndRecreation was built on Indian burial ground, which caused much concern with the public, especially when things start going wrong. The tribal chief doesn't believe in curses, but he does acknowledge the gullibility of the townspeople, and performs a fake ceremony to ease their minds.

** According to TheOtherWiki, the Saints began play in the same year that the Superdome was designed so they were not yet a losing or a winning team. League rules of the time decidedly did not favor expansion teams, an expansion team of the time would not be expected to become competitive for at least a half-decade. The Saints needed two decades to get their first winning season, and several more to get their first playoff victory, and another two decades to reach the SuperBowl. By comparison, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who initiated their franchise with an [=NFL=]-record 26-game losing streak, were in contention to reach the SuperBowl in only their fourth season. And, by the way, that Buccaneer losing streak was broken...against the Saints, in the Superdome.

A common cause for supernatural goings-on in America, commonly seen in movies: A house is haunted or Cursed due to being built on an Ancient Indian Burial Ground. The disturbed spirits of the ancients of the land then enact their bloody vengeance against those who wake them by turning off the lights, making hooting noises, creating flies and maybe, if they feel up to it, killing people.

Subverted in that this fact is actually a sign of the camp's dismal quality, rather than actually affecting it. In The Simpsons' world, Krusty merchandise tends to be extremely shoddy and poor quality, if not outright dangerous to use.

Its really more played for laughs than parodied. It's exaggerated for humor, not twisted up in a satirical way. Also, I don't think a gag version of the trope makes for a good quote at the top. If anyone disagrees, could move to the discussion page? Also, I'd be very glad to see other quote suggestions.

When stones from the burial ground decorated with the dragon gods were dug up and used to make a pool at an English estate, the pool was supposedly haunted by a murderous lizard man for deacdes until he was driven out by exorcism. Fun story if not exactly believable.
