*** VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV protagonist Cecil's design in DissidiaFinalFantasy, true to his Amano origins, has a headband and beads in his long, pretty hair. Not only Cecil, but almost every character has some sort of bead in his/her hair, even if they weren't there in Amano's original designs. And if by any chance they don't wear them in their head the beads will be in the character's outfit, this applies to Nomura's designs such as Tidus or Sephiroth

Mostly used in anime, where the author usually has OnlySixFaces, but the relatively mundane setting doesn't call for the more outlandish AnimeHair or even nonstandard HairColors; the next best way to distinguish heads is by having the girls wear their hair up with increasingly iconic accessories. Especially prevalent if the main character has brown hair. They're also commonly paired with GirlishPigtails.

Added DiffLines:

* Anime/CodeGeass has them on Shirley several times, out of uniform.
** Male example: Lelouch wears a flower in his hair in one official art.
** In Anime/CodeGeassAkitoTheExiled, everyone has them in their caravan costumes, regardless of gender. Akito has a piece around his braid with jewels on it, and Leila has different jewelry around her egg-shaped buns.
** Akito's brother Shin wears different sorts of things on his ponytail - usually a long, purple string tied into a bow. Out of uniform, he wears a large ribbon bow, like Baroque gentlemen would wear.

Added DiffLines:

* Many characters, mostly male, wear them in Anime/K official art, mostly as a few clips in their bangs.

* Fanfic/NobodyDies: For the first fifteen chapters, Asuka's hair is down completely, due to her mother pulling her from the Evangelion Project, and thus never becoming the Main/Tsundere we all know and love (to hate). Instead, her older brother Uriel wears the hair clips, like Canon!Asuka. During a spa day with Mari in chapter 16, she gains a pair of non-functional hair clips as a finishing touch, mainly a gambit by Mari to get Shinji's attention. It worked. She kept these non-functional clips for off-duty times, even after becoming Unit-02's pilot.
