Green-eyed redheads are among the rarest color combinations found in humanity (with the exception of some [[VioletEyes abnormalities]]), and thus is used to distinguish an important, notable character visually. It's more often found with women than with men, and is almost always either found as a trait of TheHero or The Hero's LoveInterest. To qualify for this trope, it's important that:

* The character is a major character.
* The character is not in works where YouGottaHaveBlueHair.
* The character isn't from a live-action work, unless they were artificially given these colors for the purpose of the work, or were chosen directly for it.
* The character has red hair and green eyes, and not pink hair or hazel/blue-green eyes, or even green hair and red eyes.

This image might have been [[TropeCodifier influenced a lot]] by MaureenOHara and her various roles, which also influenced this to be the PhenotypeStereotype for an [[{{Oireland}} Irish]] person. It may also have something to do with the fact that red and green are complementary colours - which also may help to explain why so many red-headed characters are [[RedheadInGreen depicted wearing green]], even if they aren't Irish.

However, the combination ''is'' disproportionately common in media [[AuthorAppeal for some reason]]. What's more, it is also often associated with a particular character archetype: a passionate, yet sensible ([[AlwaysFemale female]]) LoveInterest for TheHero. It seems that the GreenEyes' association with the calming force of nature keeps the "fiery" part of "FieryRedhead" in check, which somehow increases the appeal of such characters. Whether good or [[EvilRedhead evil]], green-eyed redheads tend to be liked a lot both in- and out-of-universe.

She's also got dark scarlet hair, jade eyes and is five-foot-eleven, and doesn't mind letting [[AlphaBitch her hard side]] show [[GoodCopBadCop when necessary]] - although [[DefrostingIceQueen events have helped her soften up]] towards her teammates.

* ''Literature/AnneOfGreenGables'': Even though she's possibly the TropeCodifier, she's ''not'' an example. Her eyes are described as greenish-grey in the first book, but as she grows older, they turn pure grey, just as her hair becomes closer to auburn. This is an example of cosmetic ValuesDissonance: red hair and green eyes were both considered unattractive, and having them merely be ''kinda'' red and ''kinda'' green let the author get away with [[SuetifulAllAlong playing a character as not pretty, but intriguing to look at... well, unconventionally pretty... well, really very pretty as it turns out]]. There was a lot of this in novels of the time.

Green-eyed redheads are much rarer in RealLife than fiction would have you believe, what with being the least common hair color and one of the least common eye colors. However, the combination ''is'' disproportionately common in media [[AuthorAppeal for some reason]]. What's more, it is also often associated with a particular character archetype: a passionate, yet sensible ([[AlwaysFemale female]]) LoveInterest for TheHero. It seems that the GreenEyes' association with the calming force of nature keeps the "fiery" part of "FieryRedhead" in check, which somehow increases the appeal of such characters. Whether good or [[EvilRedhead evil]], green-eyed redheads tend to be liked a lot both in- and out-of-universe.
