* This is true of ''Comicbook/{{Hellblazer}}'' in general - John Constantine is a spiritual anarchist who finds both sides repulsive and stands for common humanity against any sort of supernatural interference or exploitation.

* ''Literature/LeftBehind'': Many readers who do not share the authors' ''exact'' religious views have levied this criticism. [[RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgment Let's not carry the subject further, thanks muchly]].

* This is strongly invoked in John Calvin's ''Institutio Christianae Religionis''. Whils there is no question that Calvin presents Satan as a CompleteMonster, his concepts of [[HumansAreBastards original sin]], [[YouCannotFightFate double predestination]] and [[YouCannotChangeTheFuture reprobation]] implies God is essentially an emotionally impaired sadist who created men as his toys, and who sentences people to Hell for being merely born.

* This is the opinion of the wholeTranscended side in ''[[NexusWar Nexus Clash]]''. The most prominent gods on both the angelic and demonic sides would be more than willing to sacrifice humanity and free will to get an advantage in their endless war with each other. The Transcended reject their entire rhetoric of good and evil to forge their own path and try to win the war for free will itself, but often risk becoming StupidNeutral as a result.

* In the Creator/BrothersGrimm's fairy tale "Literature/GodfatherDeath" the protagonist's father believes this. He does not want God for a Godfather for his son, because, he gives to rich and lets the poor starve,[[note]]the Grimms were quick to insert a comment about, "how wisely God apportions riches and poverty." However it was not in the original fairy tale and seems oddly out of place, so it may have been edited in to appease offended parties[[/note]] nor the devil, because he is a deceiver. He then chooses Death, because he "takes the rich as well as the poor, without distinction".
** Death was an ''excellent'' godfather, and made the boy's fortune as a doctor. But eventually the godson broke the rules, and therefore Death did not extend his life past its appointed time, as he might possibly have done if less annoyed. Even when the boy broke the rules, all that Death did was let the boy die when he should. Which would have happened if Death wasn't his Godfather anyway.

* ''WesternAnimation/SauasageParty'' has this as its theme. The "gods"--that is, the shoppers at the supermarket-- just want to eat the food characters, whereas the "Dark Lord"--the supermarket custodian-- throws the food away once it's passed its expiration date. Both are highly undesirable fates for the food, although [[spoiler: most of them don't know the "gods" eat them until the protagonist finds out firsthand.]]

* The ''Franchise/BlazBlue'' series is ultimately revealed to have this going on. The SatanicArchetype is [[CardCarryingVillain Yuuki Terumi]][[spoiler:, aka Takehaya Susano'o no Mikoto (yes, THAT Susano'o)]], who is gleefully unrepentant of all the atrocities he commits because he hates Amaterasu that much. Speaking of Amaterasu, it was originally perceived as a benevolent figure that reset the timeline to prevent certain calamity... until we realize exactly what that "calamity" really is. [[spoiler:The Origin, the entity that inhabits the Amaterasu unit, originally wanted to be saved from her fate as the "god" of the world, but the "hero" of her story either got lost, swore off his fate, or got destroyed, and Amaterasu rewrote the story from scratch every single time this happened... and '''only''' when this happened, regardless of all other calamity that befell the world, usually caused in some capacity by Terumi's handiwork. The "hero" in question is none other than Ragna the Bloodedge in every instance.]] After all that, is it no wonder [[TheArchmage Nine]] and [[MadScientist Relius Clover]] both couldn't possibly care less about Terumi ''and'' wish to see Amaterasu destroyed and replaced?
