Added DiffLines:

** In ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'', the first of your two rivals is Hau, your first friend when you arrive in Alola. Throughout the entire story, he remains a supportive and loyal companion that is nevertheless keen on testing his skills against you.

** Reimu and Marisa's relationship with each other is like this as well. They're good friends and Marisa readily admits Reimu is stronger (proudly calling herself the second-strongest person in Gensokyo), but she still tries to become stronger and resolve incidents faster.

* ''WesternAnimation/SuperNoobs'': Memnock and Zenblock, who are two alien warriors sent to Earth to train a bunch of kids to fight a threat called the virus are at huge competition with each other. This trope replaces their bickering LikeAnOldMarriedCouple in the second half of the first season and it is even Lampshaded in "The Super Noob Super Cup" when Tyler tells them both that they get very competitive with each other sometimes. Examples of them engaging in this kind of rivalry include them competing in things like dance offs, snowball fights, basketball, and alien versions of table tennis and pin the tail on the donkey. They still remain great friends.

* ''Webcomic/DearChildren'' Devin and Chelle love to argue just for the sake of arguing. During the club room conversation in chapter 2 it is shown that they will debate about anything, even if it has no significance. Because they get so heated, they will try using their other friends as tiebreakers. Despite how nasty their comments towards one another get, they still manage to remain friends.

** On the same topic, [[FireEmblemTellius Boyd]] is also this to Ike, TheHero of ''Path of Radiance'' and ''Radiant Dawn.'' Despite his cockiness and brash nature, Boyd is genuinely a NiceGuy who's determined to one-up Ike in combat in the most friendly way possible, to the point that he can be regarded as Ike's equal. * ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'': Sakura and Ino become this upon Sakura's discovery that Ino also has a crush on Sasuke. At first they'd actually drifted away from the "friendly" part, but regain it after their match in the Chunin Exams.

* ''Manga/SlamDunk'' has a borderline example, with Akagi and Uozumi, who compete on who's the best Center in Kanagawa, but they greatly respect one another, to the point they end up hugging each other after their final match, crying ManlyTears. Even further (only seen in the manga), Uozumi actually comes to root for Akagi during the nationals and help him out of a tight spot in the match against Sannoh.
