** Nami and Nojiko's original hometown was destroyed in a fight between Marines and pirates, which left the two orphaned and adopted by a Navy soldier named Bell-mere. Downplayed since this happened when both were very young (Nami was too little to remember at all), they both consider Cocoyashi Village where they were raised their home.

* In WebAnimation/RWBY, it is common on Remnant for Creatures of Grimm to destroy towns and villages that exist outside the protective confines of the Kingdoms. Huntsmen exist to protect the people from the Grimm, but they can't match the sheer amount of Grimm that exist. Lie Ren and Nora Valkyrie want to become Huntsmen, having survived an attack on Ren's home village Kuroyuri during their childhood. By Volume 4, they eventually defeat the Grimm that caused Kuroyuri's destruction. Later, in the Atlas Arc, their childhood experiences drive their behaviour towards the threat the BigBad Salem poses to Atlas; they take different paths to each other, triggering imposter syndrome in Ren and an identity crisis for Nora.

* LightNovel/GoblinSlayer has one straight example involving the slaughter of the titular character's village by goblins, which set him on the path of becoming the living bane for the entire race, but interestingly enough it has several other Trope examples. The gods have a habit of trying to give a DarkAndTroubledPast to adventurers they view as having potential for interesting "stories", mainly through having their hometowns slaughtered by goblins, but Goblin Slayer's status as ImmuneToFate has resulted in him preventing such circumstances from occuring, which has lead to divinely intended cases of dark and brooding people instead growing up happy and well-adjusted, along with preventing seasoned adventurers from experiencing a MyGreatestFailure by losing their hometowns due to being unable to make it in time.

Cleaning up the trope. This is a "call to adventure" trope. Weiss is already well into the adventure when her hometown is destroyed, but it's what drives Ren and Nora to become Huntsmen in the first place. I'm not sure what trope the destruction of Atlas is, but it's not this one.
