The series' BigBad, Winnowill, likes to call Leetah her "dark sister" and at one point starts a discussion with her about race. It turns out all elves consider skin color to be purely aesthetic--the discussion is actually about Cutter's animal heritage, which Winnowill considers ''vile''.

Eventually, he confronts one of them and, after some baiting, exclaims "You and your friends ganged up on me because ''I'm not a professional''"--the others being lawyers, dentists and so on.
